Hello Gumtown and folks

I finally get a MIDI to USB adaptator : a Midiman M-Audio Uno for which one there are linux "drivers". It seems to run (reading and writing patches) but suddenly Flooboard crash.

Attached is the log when I launch Floorboard in terminal, I hope it helps to find what's wrong.

Other thing for you Gumtown : last build of linux 32bits Flooboard allows reading/loading patch while connected per direct USB wire, but fails to write/overwrite patch.
Which version of Linux are you using, and which version number of the GR-55FloorBoard editor are you using,
the crash dump seems to indicate the midi out port was suddenly unavailable during use,
is there another midi program running trying to grab the midi device?

Oh yes, pardon, of course.

I am running your last 20161110 GR55 floorboard editor version under Ubuntu mate 16.04 32 bits.
No other midi program running.
Floorboard editor crash when trying to load a new patch (once double clickin on a patch actually).

I can not comment on the M-Audio UNO as I have never owned one, is the problem possibly with the UNO adapter on Linux.

I have been running the Linux 32 bit version on my computer,
with the GR-55 connected direct by USB cable, for the last two days and it has not faulted once for me.

I will need to try running it on another Linux 32 bit system to be sure.

What is the specification of your Linux 32 computer?

After my last days research, it is what I am about to conclude.

Here's follow the real part I feel really embarrassed :

About direct USB it seems that either I've reported a false issue or/and I am dumb.
So correction is :there's no problem with direct USB cable with ubuntu using last linux 32bit floorboard editor. I might have imagine something.

Sorry for that.

Cheers

conclusion is Floorboard editor works like a charm and I really don't need those MIDI to USB cable. Maybe I should consider spending that money in a more pragmatical manner.

Typically a Linux build includes ALSA Audio /MIDI drivers , (or JACK AUDIO) which accommodates most Roland/Boss  gear

Hi All,

It has been about three years since I've used the GR-55 Patch Editor. In the interim, I've upgraded to an ultra wide screen monitor (34" 21:9). I have the monitor in its native (max) resolution (2,560 x 1,080), and the bottom of the screen is cut off, with no way to scroll down. Can someone tell me if there is anything below the Patch Clipboards? As long as the Clipboards is the bottommost feature, I think I can use it this way.

Many thanks,
Lou

To adjust the scale of the editor screen,
Open the Preferences > Window dialog,
uncheck the "auto scale" option (switch auto scaling off),
set the ratio manually down to a smaller value,
select OK and then close and restart GTR-55FloorBoard editor for the resized screen to take effect.

Oops.... One more (and hopefully the last) question: Is there anything I can do to fix this? The Source window in Assigns is not wide enough.

Thanks again,
Lou

not with the current mac version of the editor, as the mac OS X operating system gets changed as it upgrades, more quirky issues arise.
The combo selection boxes have that annoying selection tick taking up the space which would normally allow the dialog text to fit.

I can't recall on that version, but if you select from the Preferences > Layout menu,
and Select "System" as the chosen skin, then restart the editor,
it might replace the selection comboboxes with native white/blue mac ones. (maybe)

JazzGuiutarGimp

Thank you - that didn't help  :) But you said "I can't recall on that version.." Is that to say there is a more current version of Floorboard?

gumtown

No,
just that there are editors I make for many more Roland/Boss products,
so it is difficult to keep track of each one.
There are 2 or 3 variants which have the native mac layout included, but maybe not the GR-55 editor (yet).

I am in the middle of rebuilding a mac Sierra system,
I went to upgrade from Yosemite last night and my machine never recovered to start-up.
So wipe and start again, and reload.
Hopefully so then will be fully compatible mac 10.12 updates in the editors.

Gumtown, sorry to hear that you have to rebuild!  If it's not already on your list would you mind looking at the ASSIGN problem reported here: https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=2951.msg123235#msg123235

I just posted a Sierra update of GR-55FloorBoard, not yet tested it yet with my GR-55 (being 1:00AM here and work in the morning).
I will have to break out the GR-55 this week and check some of those assigns and such......

Hi gumtown,
Do you know if it is possible to run the floorboard editor on a chromebook with crouton and linux ubuntu 14.04. I downloaded the program but it doesn't seem to come up. I have the application installed but when I click on the exe file nothing happens. Does the gr55 need to be connected for the program to start in linux?
Also if this would be something risky for the gr55, I'll pursue it no further . I spend a lot of time on the chromebook and I thought it would be cool to try something different.....thanks

the version with *.exe is a windows application and will not run on Chrome operating system.
You say you have Linux 14.04 (which is quite old and no longer supported), which one of the Linux versions should run on,
but must select either the 32 bit or 64 bit version to match your Linux.

If the editor still won't start in Linux, open a terminal window and check which dependencies are required for the application, by using the ldd command.
example
$ ldd /path/to/program/GR-55FloorBoard
where the path is the folder where the editor is located.

Since I updated, I've seen some errors. The main thing is that it does not connect to the GR55. But things have also disappeared, such as adjusting the system for fender guitars.
Any help connecting to the GR55? Thank you.

What Computer platform and OS version ?

What did you update?
If it was the OS , you probably need to install different GR-55 USB Drivers

Common problem

must follow the exact instructions in the README.HTM located inside the Roland GR-55 MacOS 10.12 Driver

Hi Gumtown,
I confirmed I downloaded the 64 bit linux version which is what I'm running. When I try the dependencies with ldd it reads unknown command. Is there an application I use to open GR-55FloorBoard (such as jack) or once extracted to desktop the executable should open . All parameters are set to read and write. Should I try the debian64 ?.......thanks

I just updated the mac version of GR-55FloorBoard today,
it runs well on Sierra, and can auto detect the presence of the GR-55 and connect.
It is not 100% bug free on Sierra,
as the mac midi sub-system seems to stall occasionally for a little while,
it seems like it has been set to less a priority thread that in previous mac osx versions.

QuoteBut things have also disappeared, such as adjusting the system for fender guitars.
I am not sure what you mean by this?
Nothing has been removed, and there is no special setting for Fender GC1 guitars.

The editor is built on Linux Ubuntu 64 15.04, your Linux will need ALSA audio/midi system installed to run, as it runs on ALSA and not Jack.

The ldd command is built into all Linux operating systems, possible you might need Super-user privileges, from the terminal type sudo su and press enter.
to find the dependancies required,
from the GR-55FloorBoard folder, you should be able to type ./ldd GR-55FloorBoard
remember everything in Linux is case sensitive.

the editor itself should be able to launch from a double click on the GR-55FloorBoard app.

I just updated the mac version of GR-55FloorBoard today,

Thanks, Gumtown!

Sadly, the folks at sourceforge.net are a bit loopy these days:
- they sent me a robotic "new version available" note today, but it's date-stamped 2013.
- the one at the top of the page at https://sourceforge.net/projects/grfloorboard/files/?source=typ_redirect  marked "Looking for the latest version? " is from 2012.
- and the one on that same page marked "uploaded 5 hours ago" won't open under yosemite (OSX 10.10.5)

Gumtown, can you point us to the  20170128 version?
