Don Greco

I have used my previous GT-100 & the GT-001 into ProTools in windows before.
I mostly use Linux (Ubuntu Studio) on all my systems now and want to know what is involved in getting the GT-1 running into all the Linux recording apps. There are many connection/audio path applications dealing with "Jack".
I know that the GT-100 & GT-001 both worked in Linux and even the GT Floorboard was a "Tone Studio" alternative.
Boss/Roland hasn't released any info, drivers etc., maybe they released this thing before they had all the useful stuff finished.

Who has any experience getting this thing to work ?

the Linux buzz word for audio and midi is "ALSA"
http://www.alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Main_Page

This is the system for getting your Boss audio to work with the core Linux kernal,
a project team who are always adding new hardware to the project.

I am not sure where the current Boss gear is at with this, the GT-1 might work at 16 bit 44.1kHz
Free "GR-55 FloorBoard" editor software from https://sourceforge.net/projects/grfloorboard/

Hi Don,

I just registered to this forum to partly "necrobump" this thread. I hope not, because this is still relevant.

So let's face it: atm, the GT-1 is not supported by linux!

Output of dmesg on Arch Linux 4.18:

[ 3581.633014] usb 2-2: Product: GT-1
[ 3581.633016] usb 2-2: Manufacturer: BOSS
[ 3581.737600] usb 2-2: Unable to change format on ep #8e: already in use
[ 3581.737644] usb 2-2: Unable to change format on ep #8e: already in use
....

Quite obvious, the address is already in use. So the problem is that the ALSA-USB driver has special rules for Roland devices, which don't apply to the GT-1.

BUT: there's is a dirty workaround, see https://www.linuxmusicians.com/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=17180&start=30

I'll keep the thread updated there.

Ok fine, at least Midi works out of the box

$ amidi -l
Dir Device    Name
IO  hw:2,0,0  GT-1 MIDI 1

So GXFloorboard works for now. Thanks Gumtown!

FWIW - Boss GT-1 also works with Android

Discussion of Android Audio / MIDI using USB OTG adapters to USB Audio interfaces with

Works with Boss GT-1   Requires disabling USB MIDI in the Audio Evolution Mobile settings

Will require a suitable USB to OTG Host Port adapter
