Does anyone know if the GT-1, while plugged in through USB to a MAC OS DAW and/or a GMS can be setup to control a MIDI Control Change?

Is there even one tiny setting for any external Control Changes?

AKAIK - The GT-1 does transmit MIDI patch change messages using MIDI over USB  - to a connected PC/Mac which has the official Boss GT-1 USB Driver installed

Its possible that moving the expression pedal transmits  MIDI CC#7

Use a third party MIDI Monitor app  and read "generic" details here:

A month ago, I sent a message to Yoshi Ikegami, the president of Boss suggesting if they can add MIDI implementation to the GT-1 in order to control it using the MIDX-20 and a MIDI pedalboard such as the Behringer FCB-1010. Two days after, Yoshi told me that he spoke to the engineers and they're currently working on it. Hopefully this function will be available on the next firmware update.

The good news is Yoshi has obtained a MIDX-20, and is exploring how that box can unlock remote MIDI control for several Boss products , since the bean counters vetoed the  MIDI I/O jacks

Take what you need, put back a bit more, leave the place behind you better than it was before :-)

This seems fantastic, and very promising!

I have a few questions, and hope you may be able to give me some guidance?

Can this be done without the USB Driver or use of a computer? Just like the GT-100?

What I mean is can this be implemented to use a 5pin Midi out (from computer) to GT-1 USB midi and have the computer's 5 Pin Midi Out send Program and CC control change messages without using the GT-1 Driver?

Note:
Using the GT-100 needs no midi driver, so I just send out midi Program/Control Changes from the computer's 5 pin midi out to the GT-100's 5pin midi in, and control all my Program/CC Control messages automatically.

Would it be possible to post detailed directions on how to do this if possible?

P.S.
I'm a pro player that tours quite often, and my GT-100 is just too big to fit on Flights and the GT-1 would be a fantastic alternative for me.

Please let me know and thank you for posting this!

That's what the Primovasound MIDX-20 does - its a small computer that talks to Boss GT-1 using USB connection, to provide a functional 5 pin MIDI I/O ports for use with your other MIDI gear ( footcontroller, sequencer, computer, etc )

Wow thanks admsustainiac! This is fantastic news. i've been waiting for this for quite some time.

So just to be sure...

I use the GT-1 and the MIDX-20 together and that's it? Then I can control the GT-1 from my PC's 5 pin midi out, right?

What if any extra cables will I need to hook up 5 pin midi out to the MIDX-20 in, and then out to the GT-1?

Sorry about the question, I just need to be sure.

Very much appreciated, and Thanks again!

CodeSmart

1. Connect 5-pin MIDI cable from PC to MIDX "MIDI IN"

2. Connect USB cable between MIDX "USB LWR" and GT-1

3. Connect 9V to MIDX

Done! No further setup required.
But I got more gear than I need...and I like it!

Quotefrom my PC's 5 pin midi out, right?

what hardware are you using for your  PC's  MIDI Interface?

best to read the MIDX-20 thread and talk to Codesmart

Wow this is amazing news for me.

Thank you for this great information!

Codesmart ( Robert F) is a genius

too bad other forums get cranky  - or delete my posts when I try to tell them about his efforts

Unfortunately I'm out of MIDX for the moment, but boards and enclosures are in production. Ready in abt. a month.

If ordering, inform you want Katana+GT-1 firmware pre-loaded. I expect there also will be a Katana+MS-3 firmware available around that time.

Thank you I'll be waiting for this.

Please read my previous post about what hardware I'm using, and hopefully it's all good.

thank again.

My lightweight SoftStep 2 USB controller controls the GT-1 through the MIDX second USB. The bottom 5 buttons for most frequent patches and the top 5 buttons for various effects on/off+ Tap tempo....

Hey, that looks interesting. Any GT-1B option there? I'm working on it  ;D

By the way, is there any chance that Boss/Roland unlock the MIDI part, with full MIDI implementation documentation and so on?

Or will that box get some (big) update in the future?

Thanks for all the ressources I could read that far!

Any chance of accessing the GT-1 built in Looper via MIDI or Sysex?

Does anyone have the official Boss GT-1 Complete MIDI IMPLEMENTATION doc?

Been a while, but the only thing I manage to gather was the SysEx to do the things I do in my MIDI Bridge.
https://www.primovasound.com/pdf/MIDX_20_GT1.pdf
simply by listening to the BTS.

The looper is something out of control of BTS, right?
and if so we can only guess.

So the question remains:
Does anyone have the official Boss GT-1 Complete MIDI IMPLEMENTATION doc?

gumtown

I am sure the simple Looper built into any Roland/Boss device is outside the control of sysx,
except any device which uses some looper controls in the Assigns.

The looper is outside of the "COSM" engine, so not directly accessible through sysx.
Free "GR-55 FloorBoard" editor software from https://sourceforge.net/projects/grfloorboard/

For example, review GT-1000 Complete MIDI Implementation Doc

Search on "Loop"
https://www.boss.info/global/support/by_product/gt-1000/owners_manuals/c66948c0-0462-4664-80f6-3a45bb70384d/

Reveals several sysex addresses
Of course these will not work on GT-1

But review the Boss GT-100 doc might stumble on the looper control that also works on GT-1 (which is based on GT-100)
