Its crucial to understand the differences between the "classes" of GK 13 pin  processor types.


ROLAND GR-50 with GK-2  (13 pin GK PU)

The earliest GK 13 device was the Roland GR-50 (1989)  - which performed "Guitar to internal PCM Synth triggering conversion, as well as Guitar to 5 pin MIDI ( to drive external Synths)


Later Roland unveiled a Floor GK PCM Synth unit - the Roland GR-09 ( 1993)

Swiftly replaced in 1995 with the similar looking  - higher performing Roland GR-30  - many consider this still the fastest  / best tracking Guitar PCM SYNTH unit Roland/Boss ever made

Around 1998 a German company BlueChip Technologies ( later Teratec) introduced the AXON Guitar to MIDI converter box created by Andras Szalay and mathias Grob

All above employ a pitch extraction  / conversion process which requires a few CPU cycles to perform and it adds latency - the Axon units in the group above had lowest latency
