A good indicator of how bad the economy is in USA, when Fishman markets this new product everywhere - EXCEPT the USA.

ha , ha   here is even worse....  In any case ,  my  general vision  about all this  -In the past I used roland gr 55, etc mahh......  But FTP ! I think this possibility with FTP and  external  control (expander midi synth generator ) without  PC , Mac  -  Great !  most  important jump   in the last 20 years for guitar as instrument   for total  creativity  . Also  world  famous musician  and composer Goran Bregovic  uses only midi (for live show and  at  studio)only   midi .

In April 2011 we went to Goran's house to document the preliminary production process of my debut single, "Jealous Monster". This project is now known as "The Anca Pop Project".

I'm hoping the USB output is class-compliant, so I can still plug this into the iPad, BUT have control over which hardware sensitivity is being used, and perhaps change patches in Sampletank on the iPad.

Fishman Tripleplay Floor Controller

Due April 2015 for $200 Street price

Foot pedal for the existing Tripleplay USB Receiver . It's an accessory for all existing and new FTP users.

Its a USB Host to 5pin MIDI I/O converter ( the existing FTP USB Receiver plugs in on the upper right top of the unit , with Three foot switches, 5 pin MIDI I/O , USB Host port, 1/4"  Guitar I/O jacks which are simply there to provide an internal audio relay mute switch as a means for the guitar mounted FTP Controller's three way switch to mute the normal Guitar signal when in the "Synth" position.

Its not a USB Audio Interface, but might also work as a USB Class compliant 5 pin MIDI Interface.

I understand deeper program-ability for this new Floor controller  - with selectable MIDI channels for the MIDI Mono Mode Note on/off transmission and user selectable Pitch bend range will be supported  by a new updated version of the Win/OSX FTP Control Panel app due Spring 2015

Below  matches what I know

I voiced a strong desire for a dedicated IOS App for FTP setup / configuration - but I was told thats not going to happen

+1 im with you on this, I posted on fishman fb page also, wonder whats they thinkin of it on future updates but for now I think they don't have plans for IOS

 Fishman Tripleplay Foot Controller

I suspect this has been pushed back for a summer 2015 release

I think I'll wait for the model where it's easier to step on a button than the FTP receiver...
Address the process rather than the outcome.  Then, the outcome becomes more likely.   - Fripp

I share same thoughts here

Will the FTP floor unit come with its own preset of sounds.

That looks definitely like a nice addition but if one is just looking to connect to hardware there must be some less expensive way.
What are alternatives please?

* Raspberry PI $35 + Generic USB to MIDI cable ($15)

* iConnnectMIDI (original Black version - discontinued )

* iConnnectMIDI4+  (not the iConnnectMIDI2+ ! ! )

* Kenton USB Host to MIDI Converter

* Primova MIDX-10

Its a shame Fishman did not employ more protection for the fragile FTP USB Receiver

The current  TriplePlay FC-1 Floor Controller design leaves the FTP USB Receiver exposed too close to a foot switch and is likely to be stepped on

(wish USB Host port was behind a door like GR-55, and offer more protection for the FTP USB Receiver

- i suspect they did not want to restrict the RF communication to the FTP Controller on the guitar , which would occur if the  FTP USB Receiver was inside a metal box)

For future TriplePlay FC-1 Floor Controller owners, there are third party USB Extenders  that can relocate the FTP USB Receiver out of harms way

The FC-1 looks like a nice gadget to have for those still into DIN plugs. The patch list is stored in the encoder! Wow, freaky. Had no idea it did that.

But really, even the new $200 gadget needs the dongle? Ugh. I guess it keeps the cost lower, but dongles have always been one of the evils of music software. Mine always tend to wander off at the worst times.

This is frustrating for me - they have a potentially great product, but just don't seem to have any idea what the needs of most working musicians are. I need something I can gig, and dongles don't cut it - let alone placed in a perfect position to kick or stomp on (on a pedal made for stomping!). One misstep and it's toast...

Now, if they had just put in a little recessed flip out port, like on the GR-55, it would have at least been usable. Hell, add a 13-pin socket to the box too and they would have access to the existing 13-pin user base (and cater for those of us who play nylons too).

Not surprisingly, I agree with your comments that dongles don't cut it, but if you want 13 pins there is already a product line/culture/religion for that direction. Fisherman seems to be all about wireless, for better or for worse.

Pity that while all current computing devices have multiple wireless ins and outs, Fishman seems to be anchored in an era of belief that devices manufactures install radio receivers and need help from USB dongles. which was that case maybe, what, 10 years ago?

However, it could very well be that I know nothing of which I speak and the magic that Fishman performs with their dongle can't be replicated with the receivers in current Macs, PCs and iDevices. It would be interesting to know which is the case.

Fishman Tripleplay uses a 2.4GHz Wireless communication protocol that is proprietary, and is not compatible with standard Wifi 802.11, Bluetooth, Zigbee, etc.
