Have now done a few gigs with my band www.hybrid.pm and am getting close with what I need I was wondering if we could not have a 'VG-99 live' preset settings page to share and learn on...

Have to say the cleans are easier to nail then the dirtys, having come from a tc g-force Mesa triaxis.. Etc I been perhaps a little spoilt ... But want to get close!

Cheers
Iain

If it's anything like working with a GR55, much of the problem is due to the fact that the tone controls are nothing like a traditional tone stack - they're really wide and "active" in comparison, and the sweet spots differ from one amp to the next.  You have to find the tone settings that complement the amp's gain structure, and be careful not to deviate into unrealistic territory.

Probably my no1 issue with VG gear live (and any effect box actually), is that a great patch at bedroom volume is a horrible patch at gig volume.
Haven't gigged with VG gear, but I've tested at high volumes in halls using my (pretty big) PA.
Rather than dialling in a patch, I came away with personal generic rules.
My best results at volume were:

*Mono out only (I know that's a hard one to swallow and kicks off the great mono vs stereo live debate)
*Reduce/eliminate reverb & spacial fx (so guitar can "cut through")
*Reduce bass/treble (to compensate for Fletcher-Munson curve)
*only use "BIG" bandwidth sounds on solos (otherwise other instruments get lost in a big messy soup).

I use the VG 99 live all the time. I don't have any problems with different tone at different volumes. I do run stereo in big rooms and mono in small rooms. I try to avoid panning my A/B channels because that feature doesn't sound that good when you play in mono IMHO. I use a Line 6 stagesource L2m for small gigs and add a L3m for larger gigs. FRFR is the way to go as far as I am concerned. I let the VG 99 do all the heavy lifting. Just need a good clean source for volume.
I also put all the songs in order on my banks. Even if I have to repeat a few. This way when one song is finished I just go up one bank and I am ready for the next song.
Most of my banks are A/B so that A channel is my rhythm and B is my lead. Doesn't work all the time but I would say 85%.
Here is an example.

at about 1:36 I roll to the be side for an electric sound with tons of reverb and then roll back for the 6 string acoustic.
BTW I am the guitarist on the right.
