My loving wife went out Christmas shopping yesterday and came home with the GR-55 w/GK-3 I had been planning to buy.  ;D ;D ;D   She got a great price from a Kenosha music shop.

I have a question for some of the experts here who have a GK-3 setup.  I have to choose which guitar I want to install the pickup on.  I have a '78 Les Paul Custom and an '01 Mexican Fender Strat.  Which guitar would be a better platform in your opinion?  Both guitars have stock bridges with no whammy bars.

I find it much easier to install a GK-3 on a Les Paul

Problem is that after installing the GK-3 on the Les Paul, it typically will not fit back in its hardshell case

To install a GK-3 on a strat you must remove and install a small shim the neck pocket - (most use a cut up business card ) to increase the neck to body angle to provide added string to body height clearance at the bridge for the GK-3 PU.

Thanks for the quick response Elantric.  I have had the Les Paul over 35 years now and I was leaning toward putting the GK-3 on it.  I bought it new when I was 17.

Most of the time will be spent playing at home.  If and when I take it out of the house I will have to work something out.

Follow all instructions here

i suggest take lots of photos before, during , and after installation - Since you must remove the bridge this helps as an aid to dial your action / setup back where it needs to be after GK-3 installation

Be sure to use the Roland supplied LP GK-3 Mount too ! (many confused folks throw this important GK-3 supplied mounting bracket away!)
