I have a VG99 and a GR20. I just got a GKP4 to run them both in parallel. However, when both units are plugged in, I get a ground-loop kind of hum out of the VG99 that is especially prevalent when a COSM Amp model is used.  Both units are plugged in to the same electrical source. I use a GK-3 pickup on my guitar. If I unplug the 13 pin cable from the GR20, the hum on the VG99 goes away (even leaving it plugged in to the GKP4).  The problem is really bad on the vg99 LA-Lead patch and similar.

Have submitted this issue to Roland. Any thoughts here? Does the US20 pedal exhibit any behavior like this?

Thanks.

Ok, solved my own problem. Major hum when USB cable plugged into VG99 while using the GKP4 with GR20. Unplug USB, all hum problems go away.

Right angle DIN13 from a VW CD changer - custom added to a Planet Waves Cable. It does lack the retention release tab - but it could make life easier for some GK installations.

BTW - This was posted to the Yahoo VG-8 Group by "hamerman409"

A Reference for the Kenwood 13 pin connections

Note these are NOT Roland Compatible.

But a few have right angle 13 pin plugs which can be removed and reattached to a Proper Roland cable.

I do not know if this cable exhibits this same issue but I know for sure that some cables wired for Kenwood CD changers only use a few conductors of the 13pin cable. Therefore, there are some cables that have 13 pin connectors on either end, but do not actually have all 13 pins connected internally.  I have seen a kenwood cable with 13pin on each side and 6 conductor cable.

Again, I have no idea if the cable mentioned here has all 13 pins connected or not.

See page 61 here:

you are right - looks like a no connect on pins #1,#7, #10

At $17 - could use it for parts - but must be careful

I think that VW modular right angle 13 pin plug looks better (see above)

Even Worse - its stored in grey mater in my head, due to years of being a Roland Warranty service manager.

I'm assuming you mean solder it to an existing cable with straight end? Where is the cheapest easiest place to this angled connector?

I am still new to the GR-55 but making good steady progress largely because of the good info on this forum.  Here is a simple question.  Does anyone make a good quality off the shelf 13pin connector cable for the Roland unit.  When I purchased my gr55, I bought two cables from Roland and am already having issues with one of them.  I am not into building or soldering anything.  Quality is more important to me than price.  Any ideas??

I got one of these and it works well.

I've never had a problem with the original roland cable, though.

Wow... there's a lot of great stuff in the links at the top of this thread!  My GAS didn't need to see those breakout boxes.

I too am having problems with one of my roland cables.  It's only a few months old and has been used pretty carefully.  Yesterday, I noticed that I was getting a lot of static from the low e string, particularly when using the COSM section of the GR-55.  After checking the connections, I noticed that if I moved the cable near the plug, the signal would correct itself.  However, eventually it would slip back out.

I'm interested in learning how to repair these cables if it can be done without a tremendous amount of soldering, or if there have been any "new" solutions.  I read another thread on here regarding aftermarket cables and the consensus seemed to be that they are crap.  That said, I can't keep dropping $50 on a new roland cable ever few months either.
