At the risk of sounding like an idiot, I cannot for the life of me get the volume levels to match on different patches.  I've tried using the Level/BPM settings as well as the F1 Mst level.  It always reverts back to the original settings.  In addition, the GK volume knob and the foot pedal seem to fight each other.  Obviously, I'm just not getting it.  Please help....

Be sure you are adjusting volume for USER PRESETS and then pressing WRITE TWICE.

The VG-88 employs an internal 3.3V battery for patch memory retention and that may be due for replacement by a Roland service Center as it's soldered CR-2032 coin cell type

They ARE user patches but it still will not work-- yes, I am "writing" the changes... The battery is good...
It seems the only way to lower or increase the volume and have it saved is to use the master volume in the AMP section....
Appreciate any other thoughts....

If its a VG-88 with "V2" firmware - suggest try to run Vedit - which displays all VG-88 controls and lets you understand all signal routing - and Patch Level settings:
Download it here:

See  Vedit -  demo here:
