According to product doc...
QuoteUsing commercially available LAN (Ethernet, CAT5) cable and the newly-adapted RRC2 protocol, the FC-300 provides both bidirectional MIDI transmission and electrical power supply with one simple connection between VG-99 and FC-300.

Does this mean that you do NOT need to use the FC300 power supply when used with a VG-99 ???

TIA,

-Steve

The VG-99 powers the FC-300 via the RRC-2 cable.

Yippee-kyyy-aaay !!

That's a +1000 for live use !!
The fewer wal-wart PU's I need to carry and hook up, the better.

I can then assume that when used as a 'stand-alone' midi controller [no RRC-2], that the PU is required.

Thanks,

Elantric

Yes - or Batteries - the FC-300 runs on "AA" bateries too

I just purchased a Roland FC-300 foot controller for my VG-99; Where do I get the RRC2 cable? Do they have it at GC? And does it not come with the FC-300?

Did you get the VG-99  used?

If bought new - the RRC2 cable is in the VG-99 box.

---

The recent Line6 VDI Ethercon cables  do not tangle  can work with VG-99 / FC-300 - AFTER you swap out one end for a standard RJ-45 crimp jack.

Looks like they use VanDamme 268-450-000 TourCat CAT 5E STP Flexible cable

FC-300 Q & A FAQ (Translated from Roland Japan)

Q. FC-300 cable RRC2 looks like RJ45 plug is used, but what is the highly reliable special plug?

A. Yes, RJ45 plug, high reliability Neutrik made EtherCon type plug is used at the FC-300 RRC2 Input.
EtherCon plug and XLR plug both latch when using, Ethercon provides same type connection as RJ45.

Q. Can any MIDI Program change command be assigned to pedals of the FC-300?

A. Patch mode allows a number pedal to be assigned any value of MIDI program change command.

Q. Can the FC-300 pedal transmit MIDI note on/ off output information?

A. Patch mode allows a number of FC-300 and CTL1 pedal, pedal-2 notes any information can be stored.
Also, more than one pedal notes can be stored as a single pedal to operate only in code (chord) can be printed out.

Q. RRC2 cable can be built to custom length, please tell me specs.

A. A Custom RRC2 cable must have the following specifications please.

* At least five categories (Cat5)
* Less than 15 meters in total length
* RJ45 to Ethercon - Wired Straight cable, not "crossover type".

Q. FC-300 can be connected to cable and what equipment uses RRC2 interface?
A. Guitar VG-99 and V-RRC2 cable, FC-300 becomes VG-99 foot controller.

The RRC2 Ethercon pinout is
========================
1 = RCV_1
2 = RCV_2
3 = +5VDC
4 = +VREF
5 = +VREF
6 = TXD
7 = GND
8 = GND
SHELL = GND

Any ethernet cable is fine, i use 2m patch leads cos they're v cheap and it dont matter when they get left behind at a gig!

germanicus

Out of curiosity any idea if the cable is crossover or not?

rj45 leads are not crossover, you can buy an adapter for that, but thats a rare occurence for normal usage and not needed for vg99.

Hiya,

I was wondering if Roland sell the rrc2 cable that came with the vg99 separately at all?  I can't seem to find it for sale anywhere and I lost mine at a gig a while back.  I've been using my left over network cable ever since  ::)

Any info would be great.  I'm in Australia too.   8)

Thanks.

You can contact Roland in Australia at http://www.rolandcorp.com.au/
They were very helpful when I was chasing information about the internal GK KIT

Hello,

Wondering if anyone knows where I could purchase the ethernet cable that comes with the VG-99 to connect to the FC-300 with the special XLR type housing.  I have the one I use.  Just need a backup and can't seem to find them anywhere.   At least none that are already assembled.  Thanks.

Nima,
Any standard computer network cable (Category 5 cable with RJ45 ends) will work. If there's an IT department at your day-job, ask them for a "regular old network cable". They'll, no-doubt, have a drawer full of them. If this isn't an option, RadioShack/BestBuy/etc... will have what you need.

My FC300 didn't come with one of the cables with the fancy ends, luckily I had several extra network cables lying around already.

hope this helps

Ethernet with XLR housing cables are available from Line 6 dealers - Variax guitars connect to the PODX3 Live with one.  Or, you can also buy XLR ends that can be added onto any ethernet cable.

Nima

Thanks guys.  I knew that a standard ethernet cable worked and I'd been using one for a long time.  But I started having all kinds of problems lately.  So I tried a couple of other cables to make sure it wasn't my cat5 and still had problems.  So I pulled out the one that came with the VG and now I have no problems.  So maybe I just ended up having a bunch of faulty cables.  I do like the extra protection though.
I did find the XLR ends on amazon for really cheap.

Roland has a document on this cable, and how to install a Ethercon Plug.

http://lib.roland.co.jp/support/en/manuals/res/1810719/VG-99_l_ethercon_je1.pdf

There is a problem using a Line 6 VDI cable, as the VDI cable has two Ethercon connectors - one at each end.
And of course this will NOT fit the rear RRC2 jack on the VG-99

Neutrik Ethercon plugs will work with the FC-300

So find a flexible CAT-5 or CAT-6 cable, and install a Neutrik NE8MC Ethercon RJ45 connector at the FC-300 end.

Here are a few sources

Good point about the VG end of the cable - I controll my VG via MIDI, so I've never taken a close look at the connector  ::)

Does any one know how to get an RRC2 cable?  Goes from VG-99 to FC-300 foot controller.  Looking for an extra one.

Any computer store.
Also called Cat5 and RJ45
They will come without the XLR type plug but it will work

If you want the "XLR" type of plug , ask any good music store in your neigbourhood  to order that part:

i just 'borrowed' a network cable from work on the premise that it looked the same - works a treat  ;D

Hello fellow FC-300 users,

My RRC 2 Out cable has decided to not come out of my FC-300. Anybody experience this? Any suggestions?
