Working on the version 2 firmware of the V-Controller, I accidently set the MOD1 FX TYPE to GUITAR SIM. Whoa. That doesn't sound familiar. Looking further I also found SITAR, AUTO RIFF, GUITAR SYNTH, AC. PROC and SOUND HOLD

I had my hopes up for a minute, but unfortunately none of these MOD types have any settings (page for settings is missing) and they all have the same effect under them, which is some kind of chorus.

So I guess these were effects that the VG99 development team has been working on, but in the final production firmware, they were removed. :(

Correct.

The original CDROM that came with VG-99 has a directory of icons for the VG-99 Editor to support these functions which were removed just prior to release.

See them here

Rumor is these were too buggy and it was best to remove these features.

I was hoping for a hex ring modulator like they have in the VB-99....
