Micro BR-80 eBand songs
« on: October 03, 2011, 03:01:55 PM »
**IMPORTAINT NOTE** I recommend backing up a copy of the files contained on the SD card which comes with your Boss BR-80, the drum loop tracks  and demo song are not backed up or downloadable from anywhere else.
If you erase the card, the factory material is gone for good.

I have decided to also use my Boss Micro BR-80 as my every day MP3 song player, so i have loaded up much of my favourite material, songs to listen to while on the road, and songs to play during gig set breaks. Also all my practice songs which on the current gigging setlists.

To load the songs in the eBand Song editor must be used, the song formats must match those on the compatibility list, or the eBand editor will reject them.

Now this is the bit that had me stumped for a while, the song file attributes must be correct and complete, in particular, the song Album, Title, and Song Artist, as well as the file name. I noticed this when trying to load my playlist songs in alphabetical order, but they were listed in the BR-80 in a seemingly random order, this is why...
The BR-80 can group or organise songs by either Artist or Album, if these attributes were empty, then the list will be full of blanks.
The BR-80 does not organise by file name, but by the file attribute song name.
To check the file attributes before using eBand editor (in windows), right click on a song file and select 'properties', from there you can edit the attributes as required.
A group of files can be selected and have the common properties edited, like Album and artist as a group setting.

When a song is played, the original file name is displayed on the screen as the song title, not the file attribute 'song title' setting.

With the file attributes set before using the eBand song editor to load material into the BR-80, organisation of songs by Album and Artist in the BR-80 make your experiance much more enjoyable, the BR-80 will play a continuous list of songs by the catagory you have chosen.

<< MICRO BR  BR-80 SD Card >>

This SD card contains software that will help you get the most out of your BR-80.

- Win.zip
This is a compressed file that contains drivers and applications to be used with Windows.
Expand this file on your computer, where you can then make use of the files it contains.

- Mac.dmg
This is a disk image file that contains drivers and applications to be used on a Mac.
Expand this file on your computer, where you can then make use of the files it contains.

After expansion you'll see the following folders

- "Drivers" and "x64Drivers" folders
This contains USB drivers designed specifically for the BR-80. They allow you to use the
BR-80 as an audio interface after you've connected it to your computer using a USB
cable.
For details on each driver and up-to-date information, please read the relevant
"Readme.htm" file, which can be found in the folder containing the driver you're using.
Make sure to read this file.

- "Song List" folder
Here you'll find the software needed for adding songs to the BR-80's eBand mode, or for
editing a song's performance data.
For instructions on how to install the software, please read "ReadmeJP.txt," which
can be found in the "Song List" folder.

- "Wave Converter" folder
Here you'll find the wave data that's been written to the tracks in the BR-80's MTR
mode, and software that can be used to perform bidirectional file conversions
(BR Series Wave Converter).
For instructions on how to use the above, refer to the manual that can be found in the
"Wave Converter" folder.

I received the BR 80 today but would appreciate some help from someone please ???

It was still on firmware 1.02 so I updated it to 1.06. All ok so far.

My main use will be for eband mode so I went to eBand mode and selected SONG --> All Songs and was greeted with an empty list :(

I have downloaded the factory disk image from the ftp site above and tried copying over the files to a clean formatted SD card (formatted in the BR 80).
I still don't see any songs in eBand mode.

The zip file from the ftp site contains two folders:

1. MICROBR which contains:
--MP3 folder containing BigDance.mp3

and

Roland folder containing:
--BR0 folder containing:
------CARDPRM.BR1
------DISKINF2.BR0
------SONG0000.BR0 folder containing
-----------ARRANGE3.BR1
-----------EFFECTS3.BR1
-----------SONGINF2.BR0
-----------SONGPRM.BR1
-----------TAKE_DAT.BR0 (this file is about 20Mb so I assume contains the songs??)
-----------TAKE_DT1.BR0
-----------TAKE_DT2.BR0
-----------TAKE_EVT.BR0

and
2. MICROBR_ORGINAL_FACTORY_DATA folder which contains another MICROBR folder with a similar structure to above but the SONG0000.BR0 folder only has a single small ARRNGE3.BR1 file.

From this I assumed that the first MICROBR folder was the correct one to use to reinstate the eBand songs. So I copied the contents of the BR0 folder shown above to the newly formatted SD card's BR0 folder overwriting the diskinfo2.br0 file in the process (maybe this was the wrong thing to do?). Still no luck.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You will require the Roland eBand Song List Editor

Separate versions for Windows or Mac

Important  - the Boss Micro BR BR-80 falls under the Roland Product Category called:

"eBand Gears"

All Roland references to "eBand Gears" in all Roland / Boss product documentation and Workshop Docs refer to ALL the Boss eBand products,  which include these :

* Boss Micro BR  BR 80

* Boss JS-10

*  Boss JS-8

To load songs into Boss BR-80, you need to:

1) Install the BR-80 USB Driver

2) Connect the BR-80 via USB to your computer

3) Launch Roland eBand Song List Editor Application. This requires you to setup the USB connectivity to your BR-80 before it works

4) Use the Roland eBand Song List Editor Application to import and create your eBand songs. To load the songs in the eBand Song editor must be used, the song formats must match those on the compatibility list, or the eBand editor will reject them.

Read all the Roland support docs that explain this whole process
 http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=manuals&p=BR-80
http://lib.roland.co.jp/support/en/manuals/res/62152350/eBand_Song_List_Editor_e02.pdf

And download ALL the BR-80 Workshop guides created by Roland US

Blimey! Thanks for your help.

Am I correct in saying then that the songs are on the sd card in the br80 but you need to use a windows utility via usb to tell it that they are there?! How strange.

Thanks anyway,
Jez

If your BR-80 was fresh new out of the box, you pop the factory Roland SD card into the slot, and read the owners manual and try of the eBand functionality using the Roland demos.

Read the BR-80 Owners Manual  eBand function are described on Page 28

Yes that's what I am hoping to achieve i.e. to get the SD card back to the state it was in when the BR80 was new. I just thought it would be easier than the process described above.

Hi Elantric,

I have completed steps 1 to 4 but now I think there must be a misunderstanding. I now want to restore all the Roland demo songs that would have been on the BR80 when it was new.
Where do I get all these files so that I can achieve this using eBand Song List Editor?  From the demo videos on YouTube there seems to be hundreds of these and they looked quite good.

Maybe someone who still has all the Roland demos can just upload an img file of their SD card? Wouldn't this work?

Thanks and sorry for any confusion
Jez

Try this
MICRO BR BR-80 factory installed data in the included SD Card

This is a file for recovering factory installed data in the included SD Card.

http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=downloads&p=BR-80&id=62223191

Quote
TAKE_DAT.BR0 (this file is about 20Mb so I assume contains the songs??)

On mine - the "TAKE_DAT.BR0" file is 77,280kb = about 72Mb

Yes it's all working great now, thanks again.

Incidentally the procedure worked fine on a new 16Gb SDHC card so there is now plenty of room for other songs, compositions etc.

Cheers

You may notice the larger the SD card, the longer the BR-80 takes to startup.

Yes it seems to take about 30 seconds to startup with the 16Gb card containing all the demo songs. I'll restore the old 2Gb and see how long that takes.

EDIT: With the 2Gb card it takes about 12 seconds to boot up. Quite a difference, in fact I'll stick with the 2Gb card until I need the extra space, thanks gumtown.
