Rolls PM-351 Personal Monitor is a real tool with many uses.

http://www.rolls.com/product.php?pid=PM351

The PM351, like its predecessor the PM350b, is a personal monitoring device with a 1/4\" TRS stereo/mono Line Input,a single XLR Microphone input and hard-wired XLR pass-through, and a 1/4\" stereo/mono Instrument input with two transformer-balanced and isolated XLR Outputs. All three of these inputs are also routed via individual Level controls, to a 1/4\" and an 1/8\" (3.5mm) Phone Output. The Mic Through, and Instrument outputs have jumpered Ground Lifts for elimination of ground hum. The PM351 is ideal for live bands and church musicians, as well as studio musicians and singers. Having the ability to monitor a main mix along with the musician\'s voice and their instrument make the PM351 an effective and versatile tool.

I just used one of these today in a recording session, and it proved to be a valuable tool and problem solver.

We are laying down drum tracks and scratch vocals / instruments with my 4 piece band all this week, with two guitars each being D.I;ed ( for possible re-amping) as well as Mics on amps in iso booths -  but the studio engineer could only create One common Headphone Monitor feed of both Rhythm Guitar and Lead Guitar  - in Mono.
It was crucial for our flown in Nashville session drummer  to have a solid headphone feed of the rhythm guitar to play against  which proved to be horrendous for me, as I strained to hear my Lead guitar which was buried in the mix, and I could not change my relative guitar volume in my Monitor headphones  - without changing the whole guitar mix relationship (Rhythm Guitar/ Lead Guitar level in everyone else's headphones too.
I was using a mic'ed up Amp in an isolation ( My Cube 80 XL actually )

So I unplugged my Headphones from the Studio's headphone amp, and connected a 1/4" TRS cable , and fed the other end of this cable into the PM-351's TRS Stereo Line input ( with Ground lifted)

I ran a 2nd Mic on my Amp, closed the door to the amp iso booth and fed the Mic's XLR cable into the PM-351's Mic input and for the first time all week, I had a great time at the session.

I set my own "more of me" mix using the PM-351 Level controls about midway up and it drove my new Audio Technica ATH-M50S headphones wonderfully loud and clean!
Highly recommended

I love mine. It has changed my whole attitude re: playing covers live with modellers. Will purchase a second and a couple for my Worship Team. I also cannot recommend it enough even if you don't use in ear monitors live it has many other uses like Elantrics example. And made in USA and dirt cheap for what it does.

The very cool thing with the PM-351 is if you get one for each member of the band, Rolls makes mic stand holders, and a cool phantom power box so no wall warts needed on stage !

My only beef with the PM-351 was that I thought it kind of messed with my tone when using the XLR outs since there is a transformer in the path that cannot be disabled. That was back when using my HD500 and the tone seemed slightly brighter/thinner through the Rolls. Since the HD500 XLR outs were so low level, I used the HD500 1/4" output jacks into the Rolls and then Rolls XLR outs to my powered monitors. It wasn't a deal breaker and I still kept using it, just something to be aware of.

I don't use it as a direct box. I use a separate passive D.I. When I use my HD300 I use the killer XLR outs on it and run the 1/4 in. to the Rolls. I only use the Rolls for monitoring although it's a cool feature to pass through the signal from your GR55/HD300/500 etc...I would not trust anything like that for a send to the house mix. The best thing tone wise for me is since I have no amp or wedge monitor on the stage with me I can crank the GR55 through the mains and really fill the room. After we sound check with the in- ears I take mine out and play some high gain tones through the PA so I have an idea of what is going on in the room. Loud as hell out front. Nice and quiet where I am at. Just the way I like it!

Just throwing this out there as a related piece to consider - I've been using something similar for the last few years - http://posseaudio.com

I love this thing - especially the built in ambient mics so I get that stage sound as well (but at a level I choose).

Just ordered one of these. Was hoping to use it as a DI. I guess I'll have to test it to see if it sounds good??

How did it work out?

I love my PM-351 - a real problem solver in the studio

I can say it works amazing as a live monitor. I did use the instrument out DI. Not sure how it sounded but no complaints from the sound men.
I used the DI out at home with a medium sized powered monitor and it seemed to have a high end zing (for a lack of better term)

Looks to be a 100%  "clone" of the Rolls PM-351

LINE INPUT: 1/4" TRS stereo jack for connection to a line level source such as a mixer monitor/auxiliary output, cassette player output, CD player output etc. ( If this plug is Tip-Ring-Sleeve stereo and you're sending a stereo signal to this jack, select the STEREO setting of the Mono/Stereo switch. If the plug is Tip-Sleeve mono, select the MONO setting of the Mono/Stereo switch.)
MIC INPUT: XLR balanced jack for connection to a condenser or dynamic microphone. (If you are using a condenser type mic, you will need to power it via phantom power from the mixer which connects to the MIC THRU jack. This jack will pass the phantom power from a mixer on to the microphone)
INSTRUMENT INPUT:1/4" TRS stereo jack for connection to an instrument or line level signal such as a guitar processor, keyboard, or instrument preamp output, any stereo or mono instrument level signal.

The DI out does colour the tone. Sounds "boxey"
There should be more DI talk on this forum, seeing how most of us go direct.
I should say I still adore it as a mixer/monitor. I have a hard time not using inears now

I've used a Shure P4M for about 15 years.  It's a shame they're out of production.  I once saw another company market something similar, but I can't find it.  What made the P4M most interesting to me is that each of the four inputs supports 1/4" or XLR, and each channel has a pass-through DI.  Each channel could be panned in the stereo field, and it had stereo auxiliary inputs.  It is rack-mountable, too.

They show up on Reverb and eBay every now and then, but they've been out of production for quite some time.

I've been using the Rolls for a few years now. I even use it live.
