Mooer's GE200 multi-effects pedal promises "unparalleled amp modelling in its price range"
By Michael Astley-Brown (Total Guitar, Guitarist) 9 hours agoGuitars
New affordable unit features Micro Preamp tech and IR speaker cab models
Mooer has been on a roll lately, and the GE200 is the culmination of all the company's efforts thus far, pairing the impressive tech from its Micro Preamps with a host of onboard effects, as well as IR speaker cab models.
The numbers are impressive: 55 amp models; 26 IR speaker cab models (and the ability to use third-party IRS); 70 effects; a 52-second looper with half-speed and reverb effects; drum machine with 40 patterns and 10 metronome rhythms; plus the ability to store up to 200 presets.
The onboard screen promises easy signal chain reordering, while there's USB connectivity for PC patch editing and direct audio recording, and programmable outputs to integrate into a variety of setups.

Sadly 99% of new gear youtube videos are more focused on the player demonstrating their chops - and very few actually show what the gear under review is capable of
Its a result of too many trolls bashing non speed metal players on the youtube comments area.

I have been watching this topic for some time now and I see it has potential. It's amp models are very nice sounding and the cabs are IR based and you can install custom IR's. That is the feature I have been waiting for. The reluctance Boss and Roland to produce a product with better amps and IR's will force me to look at other companies and I think a lot of players like myself will move on as well. :'(

Liking the look of this. If you know your fav pickups and don't want to investigate p/u modeling, the Mooer GE200 seems to be a very attractive proposition.
User IRs is a big big selling point, and a kick up the backside for many guitar processor manufacturers. More demos needed!

Got mine today! Now I see why all you see if heavy riffs and not much blues. There's not many presets that lend itself that way. Mainly metal sounds. That being said, doing a few tweaks and you can get some good sounds out of it. Only been playing with it about an hour and half that time was trying to figure out how to upgrade the firmware. "LEFT PEDAL WHILE PLUGGING IN THE POWER, then upgrade from the software". I'll definitely report back after I figure out how to make the damn thing do Jimi, Stevie, and the Stones. Don't think it can do Bonamassa, I think it's too f'ing lazy.
It does act as a sound card on a MAC straight out of the box.

Best clip of the GE200 so far. Last part where he rolls back the volume is the best bit.
Still lacking MIDI I/O - ( to add more Control )
and no FX Loop
I get 90% of this with carefully programmed Boss GT-1 IMHO
Maybe there will be a Mooer GE400 at NAMM - which adds the missing features I seek ?

There is an editor, so it should be possible to control it from the VController.
But it may be more useful to add support for the Katana on the VController.
The Mooer GE200 is the low cost "DSP Modeler dujour"
Quotesomething that is enjoying great but probably short-lived popularity or publicity.

When I received it, it had only about 30-40 patches. I think it may have been missing amps and effects (can't remember). I reset it and same thing. I then did an upgrade on the firmware to 1.01 and boom, lot more patches and it definitely sounded must better. BTW, their Tech Support rocks! I asked a question on upgrading the unit and got an answer right back and in perfect English.
That all being said, I don't like not having an UNDO on the looper even though I like the looper. I want a Univibe for that Jimi Sound. I want OSX software. Just to name a few.
It sounds a lot better into the front of my amp (Peavey Classic 20) then running into the effects loop, no matter how I have it setup. My biggest complaint is it does metal and clean much better than light crunch. I have a hard time getting to the middle ground. I can adjust the input level and get there but then going from dirty to clean and I have to readjust the input level. Not even taking into account going from humbucker to single coil.
I can say I like the interface better than the Helix I owned (much better design). I like the looper better than my RC3 (- Undo). I like the drum sounds a hell of a lot better than the Trio ever thought about. I like how you can navigate to a new patch without switching. I like how easy it is to setup effects to turn on and off and be assigned to the foot switches. I like the no pop between switching.
I think it's a good unit for what it is (which is not a Helix, that was a bad AD on someones part). Your not getting a Helix or AX-FX for $300. Stop dreaming!! It's more a step up from a GT-1. I honestly believe it just needs some firmware tweaks and could be a great unit. Question really is how long for them to make those tweaks? Mooer knows how to program DSPs and they know sound. To me, it looks like it was rushed to market which is not uncommon. OSIAMO is the US distributor. I told Ed there what I thought and asked him to pass it along. He said he would.
Just my personal thoughts,
Mike

Mooer GE200 WishList HighLights
Please, add a simple footswitch mode for use the 3 switches to recall 3 different patches!
It hate to scroll presets live and this solution will be *perfect* for all the people like me that can use only 3 sounds for the whole set (for example: clean / rhythm / solo).
----
FIX ZIPPER NOISE WHEN ADJUSTING DELAY TIME WITH MERGE.
----
Load, Save, Export all, not just a patch at a time in the software.
----
After working with it yesterday I find I would like: # Ability to set the volume pedal to a minimum & Maximum % # Live mode instead of preset only. Live mode allowing for footswitches to all be able to turn on/off effect blocks. # Better acoustic sounds. # Delay is clicking when setting tap tempo.
-----
Not seeing a live mode vs preset mode. I'd like to see this similar to the red truck which has both preset and live mode. Sadly the red truck doesn't have amps. This does, but less footswitches.
----
The ability to have separate Cabs or IRs left and right. I have not actually received my unit yet, but one of the downsides of my line 6 Helix is that it does not have a polyphonic pitch shifter. I know that would take up a ton of DSP, but it would be awesome to have. I am also not sure yet if the GE 200 has the ability to put the Looper at the beginning of the chain (pre effects) or at the end. It is nice to create a loop before the effects so you can just play it back as you adjust your effects parameters. That way you don't have to keep changing knobs and playing back and forth.
----
If it doesn't in fact have an intelligent pitch shifter (i'm still waiting for my question to clear, anyone home?!?) that would be an absolute necessity.
----
Shimmer, please!

In regards to the 1st video above
I really wish these folks who create online Youtube reviews would get a clue and avoid simply using the on camera (smartphone) mic for the audio capture in these youtube videos
( Listen at 2:06 minutes )The room mic is always picking up the initial "click" of the pick hitting the string , thus masking the unit under review's initial note response characteristics = in other words based on the video above, its impossible to know what the GE200 would sound like in a direct to board recording studio situation or heard in the FOH PA when used direct to the Mix board = real world use - instead of these "clickiy"clicky" bedroom iphone recordings
The video below reveals a bit more care in post production, and sounds like the actual GE200 unit direct to the recorder - without the room mic, and no "Pick attack click" from a room mic on every note

Avoid camera microphones: The previous tip was made under the assumption that a proper recording microphone is being used to capture the sound of the amplifier, but unfortunately, this is often not the case with gear demos. Many are recorded with built-in video camera or (cringe) smartphone microphones, and the results are rarely useful. Besides not sounding acceptable, these mikes are typically easily distorted. They also tend to pick up more of the acoustic sound of the guitar being strummed in the room, rather than the actual sound of the amplified guitar emanating from the speaker cabinet.

Hi friends,GE200 will have a firmware update around Christmas including CHANGE all the CAB & MIC with new algorithms.RightNow if you feeling the tone are dark in GE200 you can try turn the distance of CAB over 50% see what's happen, just don't care the value and actual MIC distance.another thing is if you want check how's the preamp of GE200,highly recommend just use the AMP model to a real power AMP.HOPE it's helpful....Cheers!

Sh1t I can't get away from this pedal. I owned it for a day and returned it over keeping my Digitech RP360XP as in it's (mooer ge200) initial firmware state my Digitech sounded a bit better. I only paid $230 for it so I did not lose more than 15 bucks selling it on reverb. My RP360 died so I opted for the GT001 and WITHOUT a doubt, the GT001 smashes the Mooer pedal and even if the Mooer has IR and an expression pedal. The GE200 in it's current form should sell new for $249 no more but that is only because it has IR capability.

We share the same thoughts re GT-001 vs GE200
Maybe if Mooer introduces a new version with an FX Loop and smart Harmonizer ,Low Latency ASIO USB Drivers, ( GE400) - they might entice me .

In fact I find more use for my $199 Boss GT-1
The GE200 is not MAC compatible meaning you need a PC to update firmware. Supposedly they are coming out with a new firmware sometime this month that is going to fix the dry/lifeless tones it has and also Mac software too. Time will tell!
The GE200 does not have drivers for Windows so you need to use Asio4all or Windows WaveRT which are not bad but not optimized for specific equipment like custom drivers are. I had trouble making it work with Mixcraft 8 but I did get it to work albeit had to fiddle with things each time I started Mixcraft or rebooted the PC. The problem was with the generic USB drive the GE200 was assigned by Windows.
I keep saying to myself, I will buy this rig (GE200)again if the firmware fixes things but I then use my GT001 and say to myself, am I crazy, the GT001 relieves all thoughts of owning the GE200.
