QuoteYou can get a GK-ready guitar that suits your playing style... so long as it's a made-in-Mexico Fender Stratocaster with vibrato.

Yep...I'm already in trouble.  My DW just saw the look in my eye.  :)  This would fit quite nicely between my Brian Moore i2.13 and my Martin DC-16!

"But honey, I need one of these.  You understand...right?"

Could easily get the non MIDI version and add the GK bits

philflood

I got mine from Elderly. At the time they had 1 new 1 and one used one. I got the new one. But I've had it over 2 years now. I end up playing it more without midi gear than with it, and it usually attracts a lot of attention. People always go, what is that, Aluminum?? And then they notice it's a Martin. Then I get the "That's at Martin??? I didn't now they made anything like that."

I think it would be pretty easy to have a GK-Kit installed in a non-midi Alternative X.

But mine'll be cooler 'cause it says Midi on the label. ;D ;D

Elantric

How is it acoustically?

How does it stand up sonically and decibel output compared to a typical soild spruce top guitar of equal size? (Taylor, Larivee?)

chipstar

Does anyone know how the Godin standard pickups sound? I like the Brian Moore guitars but their headstocks look lame. Sorry. The Godin Freeway SA looks cool but if the analog pickups blow I'll look for another option. I'd really like another synth guitar with Seymour Duncans. Don't ask me why.

Re: How does the Martin sound? Well, its about what you'd expect. Its kind of a metallic tone, like a resonator, but it doesn't have the fast decay of resonator. It sustains very well, but it doesn't sound like a wood Martin or Taylor. It has plenty of volume for its size. But, amplified, it just sounds like a bright acoustic. You can dial in a some bass and its fine.

RE: The Godin.  I don't have a Freeway. They are supposed to be Duncans. I love the Duncans on my LGX-SA.

feloniouspunk

I concur, the Duncans on my LGX-SA sound great.  And they look super cool too.

Lots of Gear. :)

I just got a switch guitar innovo3 midi and its an excellent guitar. The stock electronic and hardware are top notch and the pickups sound killer..no need to change them out..it screams and quacks and sustains forever...the neck is really well finished and while the weight is a little heavery then some and less then others it feels good. For $255 its a steal...i am really supprised at the great tone from a vibracell guitar...i wonder why they were discontinued?

I have RMC p/u's in two of my Abyss guitars.  Kevin builds some UNREAL gear!  It can be VERY EXPENSIVE or very reasonable depending on how much you dress it up.

Here are links to my #2 The Last Supper and #2 Crucifixion both drive the VG99 VERY NICELY!  Just noticed my Crucifixion is not pictured on his site yet, but you get the idea.  Mine has black EMG HZ p/u's in it but other than that it looks very much like #3.

Enjoy!

Wow, that's out of control.  I especially like the ones with wooden pickup rings.  I shudder to think what you paid.  His prices get up into Alembic territory.

Well what I want is a Fender Roland ready Tele (w/ Bigsby opt.), or a Gretsch Roland Ready 5120 ( Bigsby standard), or an Ibanez Roland Ready Artcore Hollowbody (Roller bridge trem.)   Everyone of these off the shelf could hit around the same pricepoint as the Mexican RR Fender Strats, and would I think expand the market considerably for the VG99s.

Consider, if you are using VG99 modeling for traditional music of any kind, there are certainly a lot of choices out there to give you an out-of-place/from-outerspace appearance.  A whole lot of Superstrats and Space age controllers - fine if you're in a Progressive band, not that there's anything wrong with that.  But not great if you're playing music with mandolin, 12 string, pedal steel, or Telecaster kind of a vibe. And Hanging a GK2 or GK3 off your axe ain't a whole lot better, although that's how my ESP Strat is set up. Not to be trivial, but how a guitar looks is an artistic concern especially when you work or play for somebody else.

Of what's out there now, anything near what I want is in the $2k and up range.  I like the look of the Carvin SH575 Synth access, the EYB T-Master line, and some of the X-otica Synth access guitars have a nice organic vibe.  I'd still need to add a Bigsby or a roller nut trem to them.

Ack.

I play roots rock, and have a similar concern about not using a "space age" guitar.  However, I'm very comfortable with my Sunburst RR Strat.  No problem at all.

Well, be nice to have a couple more options for guys like us, and Roland might sell a few more VG99's too.
And I already have a Strat/GK2, and a GR505 Strat than I am still hoping to convert to 13 pin.  The 505 is just so wonderfully beat up, but I'd rather leave it as is really and get a twangy hollow body 13 pin.

=== update === Well tonight I found a fairly woody looking Brian Moore nearby for a very good price, so I'm settling on that for now.  So guess I'll be selling the GR505 24 pin with the Fender Strat neck - unless Mr. Jones can find me the jack we need to convert it fairly soon....
