I have been playing guitar synth since 1995 with my Roland gI10 so I am no novice to setting up tracking but I cannot seem to get accurate tracking on my new GR55 to save my life. The lower strings are the biggest issue but My GI10 or G120 I  have do not give me this headache near as much as far as tracking goes. I have measured the string distance correct I think and it is set up for 648mm scale. I tried a bunch of different settings. I use 10 guage strings with the guitar tunes to D with a dropped 6th string C. Is it the string guage or the low tuning? I realize the GR55 lets you change tuning but that is not an option to tune the guitar standard then only use the gr55 to change the tuning. Thanks for any help.

IMHO with your low "E" tuned dow to C all the time, you are pushing the limits of the acceptable tuning for the "normal guitar feeding the GR-55.

Thanks. Do you think thicker strings would help?

Yes, far more support

I tune standard pitch but use .010-.52 Fender Bullets

I am having one of my guitars set up with 11-50 to test this theory. Still going to be drop c though. No way around that.

I have one of my gr /gk electrics set up so that its turned an entire  step low. Hi E to D, B to A,  G to F, etc. The 6th string is tuned to C. I use a set of 12 - 56 custom strings and go back and forth between a .019 plane & a .021 wound. Still trying to decide whether the 19 is too slinky.  This gauge seems to balance out the tension issues related to tracking problems. I still have to finessee some of the very low pedal tones on the C string and some patches simply don't like that pitch.

Roland designed the GR-55 and VG-99 and GP-10 to work best with guitars tuned at standard pitch with A = 440Hz

There are those who use different tunings ( Baritone guitars, Drop D tuned guitars Chapman Stick, Warr guitars, etc)  - but expect anomalies with some patches anytime a non standard tuning is used as the base guitar sound.
