Hi,

Anyone know what the procedure is for replacing the built-in power cable?  Mine has a break in it near quite close to the unit and it would be better to put in a new cable.

Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,

This should be a fairly straightforward fix.

1. Remove all screws underneath (not including the four in a square pattern).  They are bolting the transformer to the bottom cover.

2. Remove holding screw just above main inlet (not the two holding the cable clip).

3. Unclip the header clip connected to the main board (it's a white and red cable with about ten or so cores).

4. Turn over the bottom cover exposing the psu.  Just to be safe, put aside the VG88 unit to one side.

5. Unclip the cable tie next to the solder terminals and spread the cables out.

You will see the power input live wire (Brown) soldered to Terminal 7 and neutral (Blue) to Terminal 6.

6. Unscrew the two cable screws and release the power inlet clip.

7 Prize open the cable clip.

If you don't want to replace the flat twin-core 5amp cable, you can simply shorten the power cable and pull through the right length.  I would imagine you will only be losing about 10 inches.

8. Prepare and solder the shortened twin power cable to the terminals 6 & 7.  Terminal 7 is brown or live and Terminal 6 is blue or neutral.

Should take a casual two hours to complete.
