ALL ROLAND PRODUCTS REQUIRE A NEW USB DRIVER FOR OSX 10.8  MOUNTAIN LION

Avoid updating your Mac to OSX 10.8 , until Roland releases new USB Drivers.

Here is a Press Statement from Roland regarding OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion
http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=information&id=62472717

http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=information&id=62472717

The drivers for OS X Mountain Lion (10.8 ) are different than the drivers for Mac OS X 10.7 or earlier. You must use the dedicated driver for each OS version.

Good News is Roland states they will eventually have OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion USB Drivers for the gear we talk about.

GR-55 OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion USB Driver:

MicroBR BR-80 OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion USB Driver:
http://www.roland.com/support/article/index.cfm?q=information&p=BR-80

Bad news is these new USB drivers have NOT been released yet  - (JULY 25, 2012  - Note the dead links in this Roland Press release from earlier today)
http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=information&id=62472717
If you click the links to the new USB drivers for OSX 10.8  - all you get is a dead URL - like this

The URL links to the new OSX 10.8 driver will become active AFTER Roland releases the USB Drivers

However, I expect this to take several weeks or months.

For example, it took about 3 months for Roland to finally release the official VG-99 USB driver for OSX 10.7 Lion, long after they made a similar press statement.

The default is probably "Mac App Store and identified developers" but thats very limiting.

Update

Today Roland updated their Web site  - gone are the dead links,
http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=information&id=62472717

and now it only displays released OSX 10.8 Mountain Lion Drivers
The good news for VG-99 owners, from prior experience when Roland was slow to release VG-99 USB drivers for Win7 64,  we discovered the VG-99 shares the same internal streaming USB audio / MIDI chipset as the Roland UA-4FX recording interface
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=2076.msg11708#msg11708

Therefore any Roland USB Driver for the  Roland UA-4FX , should also work with the VG-99

For VG-99 users, here is the link to the Roland UA-4FX OSX 10.8 mountain Lion USB Driver here:

Thanks for this post.  Is there any particular trick to this?  I tried it and didn't seem to do the trick.  Oddly enough, everything with my VB-99 is working just fine without any updates, but the VG-99 is not being recognized.  Even after the UA-4FX driver install.

I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about this message:

I remember that for new VG-99 drivers to work you need to deinstall the old one first.

So deinstall the previous version then install the UA-4FX driver and see if that works.

ok dumb question alert.  How do I remove the old driver?  About to give it a shot.  Thanks!

aliensporebomb

The installer for the previous version contains the deinstaller applet.  I was not successful but I have a Lion boot drive I use until they provide a driver.

I tried the UA-4X driver on a separate Mtn Lion startup disk and the VG-99 Editor could not locate the unit. I guess we'll have to wait.  :(

Fantastic post! Thank you! There's hope on planet Earth.
However, what I fear the most is that (see this article : http://createdigitalmusic.com/2012/06/usb-3-0-backwards-compatible-in-theory-but-some-audio-drivers-arent-cooperating/) USB3 ports give problems so better get a Lion iMac of the previous generation instead of waiting for the new one...

So I bought a Roland Um-one midi cable so I could use the editor in mountain lion per the suggestions.

1. Downloaded the 10.8 drivers
2. Open the editor and select um-one for midi in/out
3. When I hit connect it crashes every time

What am I missing? Setting on the gr55?
Setup:
Homemade EVH Frankenstrat with built in GK3
GR55
Rocktron Talkbox
TC Helicon Voicetone C1

Which version of the editor are you using, there are currently 3 possible different types for the mac, there are the two 'current release' ones. One for 64 bit Leopard and Lion, one for 32 bit OSX (which will also run on leopard and lion - try this one too), both version 20120222, and there is the beta release of the updated version (09082012).
Try them all and let me know which works best.. I don't have access to anything Mountain Lion.
Free "GR-55 FloorBoard" editor software from https://sourceforge.net/projects/grfloorboard/

I'll have to check the version but I've had the same one for awhile now...I'll upgrade and retry in the morning and post my results.

I only see the one version on your site for mac labeled the 8.9 Mac Beta? So far when I try to install it, it crashes. Is there a trick? Do I need to completely remove any previous versions?  The one I've been using is 20120205.

UPDATE: I installed version 20120221. This one actually loads and recognizes my um-one w/o having to do anything and it sees my gr55 and shows the patch i'm on. I click on "Bank U1-U9", then I click the + to break it down into patch 1,2,3. When I click the + it crashes.

Also, is there anything I need to do to the GR55? Previously I was using the usb to usb connection until I upgraded to mountain Lion. I bought the Um-One cause it has the ML drivers which I've installed.
