I don't really know enough about how all the different gear works together so I was hoping someone might be able to give me some pointers into how I might create a patch for Mr Iommi's sound. Now I know he has some different sounds, so just for starters may I suggest the old classic Paranoid.

So what guitar might I choose (Les Paul?) I can't see an SG
What amp, what settings?, would I use distortion mod, if so which one?

I've tried some ideas, but I don't really think I'm getting close.

I'm not looking for a patch, just the ideas please to get me started.

When I play his type of stuff I use a modded(clip D4 and D5) Boss DS-1 distortion pedal in front of the amp model.Gives more of a Heaven and Hell tone but for me that is my favorite Sabbath guitar sound. The older Marshall models in the GR55 will get you close with a humbucking pickup of course. Also tune down a step or step and a half. Mr. Iommi has always tuned down long before everyone else did it and it changes the character of the tone a lot.I played Laney heads and combos back in the day and could of course get very close to his tone with those.Wish I still had those amps!

Good Luck!
