It's mind-boggling how many patches a simple USB cord can unlock.

Back in the VG88 days I was stuck with a handful of my own rickety homemade patches, and I probably had to overwrite some decent preset to save them, but now everything is completely off-board.

I love the fact that I could travel to china with my guitar and a thumb-drive full of patches and access all of my settings from a factory unit! It really is a guitarist's dream, this thing.

Just a note - Since April 2008, the  majority of our VG-99 Patches here at www.vguitarforums.com have been "fixed" and stripped of the offending embedded user system data - which typically overwrites the User System data area  - simply by loading a VG-99 Patch with the *.g9e extension. But its true people do not read, and there may be a few patches remaining here in our VG-99 Patch area in the G9E or G9L format that could make problems for you.
To avoid this potential "landmine" and spoil your day, As a reminder -

* Patches in the MID format are safe and will not overwrite your user settings. Use "File, SMF Import" to load these patches into the VG-99 Editor - and then download into your VG-99 via USB.

* If you do download and  install VG-99 patches from ANYWHERE in the G9E or G9L format  - YOU MUST MAKE A FULL BACKUP OF YOUR VG-99 SYSTEM FIRST!!! - as simply loading these patches as a trial will typically over-write all your system settings. The Roland VG-99 Editor and Librarian file types (G9E, G9L) by default will have this "User System Info"  embedded in each and every patch file - which is how Roland designed the file spec for these files..

To avoid this potential land mine and possible loss of ALL your personal GK string sensitivities and FC-300 control assignments  - use the VG-99 Patch files in the  *.MID patch file format. It is ONLY this format which we allow our members to  post, when sharing / uploading VG-99 patch files.

Welcome to the group warden!  :)

This is the one that charges $3 for a patch? There are more than you could ever need here for free, why would you pay?

I have to agree with Brent, I have contributed probably $600 in patches to this site.  Lol.  That website is a silly cash grab.  I work very hard (as many others have here) to create FREE patches for the community.  I would never purchase a patch from anyone.   Not even a signature patch from a famous artist.  I'll be honest, some people share their patches and some people don't.  Maybe they feel that their time and "artistry" or whatever you call it is worth more than someone else's.  I believe this to be a farce.  I don't care whether you make a living at music or not.  I work just as hard if not harder than the next guy creating a sound.  These communities are built on sharing and thats why I'm here.  I contribute because I feel its very rewarding when someone says, "Thanks, great job".

I agree with you and Brent 100%. I've got a few patches I'm still working on that I should be uploading in the near future.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/fxfloorboard/ has an app that comes with 1400 patches. Is there a simple way to convert these from GTPro to VG-99 and load them into VG-99 using VG-99 Librarian?

Thanks in advance!
Below is my gift to this awesome community!

Welcome to the group baatkarlo!  :)
Sorry to say that you cannot convert the GTPro patches (easily) to VG-99, sorry!  :(
