Hehe, I bought one yesterday.  Looking forward to re-doing my pickguard.  Thanks for the info!

Did you happen to see my question about the volume pot?  I'm gonna fiddle around but wasn't sure if you had possibly tried it.  I'll start a different thread if that's more appropriate.   :)

Has anyone found this part in solid black? I've found one that is a different voltage but it is critical that I find this part in black in the next week or so. If not, the S1/S2 buttons get installed which would be unfortunate.

I use a Sharpie Marker to make chrome switches black - Automotive  touch up  paint works too. Use a Q tip and dont get the inner workings jammed up with paint.

Once you have a momentary toggle switch for the S1 S2 function - You'll be spoiled and never want to use those ugly HUGE Roland GK Kit momentary switches ever again. They seem more suitable as Flipper switches for  an Arcade Pinball Machine and way too large and ugly IMHO.

Steve Moser, at Moses Graphite, suggested using black nail polish since it comes with a small applicator brush. I can just see myself at the cosmetics counter looking at different shades of black polish. What fun!

Here's the deal, guys. I've found a few sites that may have it and I've even contact Ibanez. As soon as I find a vendor for this part, I am going to post the link so that no one else has to search for this part in the future.

You might want to check with Godin for a source. My LGX-SA has a black momentary for the S1/S2 function.

Dude,
Thanks for this. I'll check with them too.

So true.  I finally have my guitar back together and I like this MUCH better than the 2 separate buttons.

I also managed to utilize the same volume pot for on my strat for the GK-3 (push pull w/ some resistors).

Hey Guys,
No luck so far. Neither Ibanez nor Godin carry that part in black any longer. I was told that Digikey may have it but I have yet to confirm this. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I just ordered a couple of these switches from Parts Express. They are being shipped to Lay's Guitar to have them installed. Man, I can't wait. This guitar is going to be hot. Sustainiac, I am so grateful for the insight.

thanks,

Anyone seen these on/off/on momentary switches in gold? Thanks

MCK

Can't see the photo on the first one but both should work by definition. You do not need DPDT. SPDT will do.

But be sure its momentary  - look for (on)-off-(on) in the description

MCK,

Does it matter how many amps they are? Some are 20A, some 6A, some 5A, etc.

I fitted white covers from http://www.aircraftspruce.com/catalog/elpages/toggleswitchcvr.php to the momentary and three way switches. I am about to change the volume to a stacked concentric pot so that I can reintroduce my mid boost circuit for my mag pickups. That way I will have both volumes in the normal top position, mid boost then tone. I think this gives a much cleaner and very functional look than using the buttons.

I used a momentary switch for patch selection that is the same size as the mag/hex switch.

When I do a GK-3 Internal install first thing i do is throw away the LED and and the S1 / S2 switches ( Better suited for a Pinball  arcade game Flippers IMHO)

For S1 / S2, I use a small Spring loaded Center off Momentary Toggle Switch known as "(on)-off-(on)" type.

Same type switch is used on the Godin LGX-SA

Hey, I like that idea of one switch. I used 2 little round momentary switches on my custom. They are small domes and are barely visable on my black guitar.

Elantric

I should add that lately instead of using the one singular spring loaded "center-off" toggle switch to replace the GK-3's internal kit S1 and S2 momentary switches,  I'm preferring keeping S1 and S2 as independent separate momentary switches.
This is due to using the RackVax, which uses unique combinations of pressing BOTH the S1 and S2 for advanced remote control of the RackVax.

If S1 and S2 function used one singular spring loaded "center-off" toggle switch, it would be impossible to control the RackVax to full advantage.

Read the RackVax Manual for details.

How did your conversion to a concentric volume pot work out? I have been unable to locate a combination 50K/250K pot to use for the conversion. How did you get the values right? Or will the GK work with a 250K volume pot?

trev27

What switch do i need to replace the 2 big black buttons for the GK 3 Kit?? I am sure its a SPDT with either    off on off     or     on off on   but which one?
Also would it be a latching or non latching??
Cheers for any help

These are the switches I used in my last GK-KIT install to replace the S1/S2, from this seller. They sell smaller quantities, but given the option of 2 for $5 or 10 for $10 I went ahead and bought 10. MOMENTARY is critical, so it drops back to center after each click.

Just google search on "(on)-off-(on)"

The parenthesis denote the required momentary action
