Gk3 / 3-way switch interaction problem

I wish to assign the modeling *tone* control to the gk3 knob. However, I've discovered a weird interaction between that and the 3-way switch on the gk3. It seems that the guitar PU position works by zeroing whatever control is assigned to the knob, and not (as one would expect) by turning off the modeling channel. Therefore, if the tone control is assigned to the knob, then switching the 3-way to the guitar PU position will just turn the modeling tone down to zero, and I'll still hear whatever modeling sound is selected (though muffled), even though I should be hearing only the guitar PU sound.

Is this by design?

Does that mean ONLY the modeling volume control can be assigned to the gk3 knob if the guitar PU is to sound by itself?

Reassigning the GK Vol to other parameters does reveal problems

The details explained here

Thanks. I've done some further research and this seems indeed to be the case. A major design flaw.
Do you happen to know how one could about complaining to the manufacturer and suggest a software update? Or is this a hardware issue?

It's a fundamental hardware flaw in an evolving product line ( GK 13 pin interface has been around since 1989.

Just know that the Roland GK interface design is flawed.

The GK-3 Three way switch and Roland US-20 A/B/Y Selector  / routers ALL rely on the GK-3 "GK-VOL" pot to be assigned to Patch Volume

If you deviate and get creative, and re-assign GK-VOL to control something other than PATCH VOLUME - that's when bugs manifest.

I always put on suitable background music to sing along when creating Control Assignments  - like

The Clash "Know Your Rights"

but I change the lyrics to suit the operation I'm doing:

"You have the Right to Re-assign the GK-VOL pot,  - as long as you're not Dumb enough to actually try it."

Ah, well. I suppose I was dumb enough to actually try it.

I just have my VG-99 set to always use the gk knob for Guitar Volume nowadays.
