I bought my VG-99 last night and reading the manual, it says to use the ferrite magnet on the 13 pin cable. I do not have one but is it necessary? I am using a Godin xt-SA with RMC pickups. It seemed to work fine, but thought I would ask.
Thanks,

Welcome to the groupwashburn100! :D

I think the jury is still out on this. Some use one some don't. I have not heard anything you can hurt without it. Sorry I don't have more.  ::)

I thought the 13-pin cable that came with the VG-99 has one.  Didn't one come in the box?
Lots of Gear. :)

When i bought my VG99 didn't get one one the cable either.
Is this a European thing maybe?
It's not a magnet but a ferrite core used to prevent the signal echoing back through the cable.
Like the old crt monitors used one.
Without it the monitor generated a ghost image blurring the image due to the signal echoing back.
This occurs when using longer cables.

That's weird.  I wonder why that is.  ???

Ferrite cores or beads are typically used to block RF (radio frequency) picked up by the cable, since no cable has perfect shielding.
