Anyone see this guy on utube selling his patches for the boss gt10?   How much are they worth?  He wants $800.00 for all his patches or $40.00 each i think.  Granted they are good patches but who the hell is gonna fork out that kind of cash for guitar patches?  Hey
I have about 10 really good ones.  Anyone wanna buy them?   How about the whole lot for 2k?   Its a sweet deal. lol

Yes Ive seen him.

Frankly, we "ran him out of town" here at VGuitarforums a few years ago.

We have better VG-99 / GR-55 patches for free right here:

GR-55 patches

If you seek GT-10  / GT-100 patches look over at Boss GT-Central

I was just pointing it out.  I thought it was crazy.  Im definitely a vg99 user all the way.  I like my gr55 but for pure guitar tones there is no comparison to the vg.  I doubt the gt10 is any better than the vg but Ive never tried one.  I did have the gt8 for a while and didnt like it much.

I think it is great when people make their hard work available for free as people do on here. I have nothing against people trying to sell their patches but I would have to find them truly wonderful to inspire me to buy. Most of the time I would try tinkering around trying to emulate the sound myself.

The only time I wouldn't do that is when it concerns patches for another instrument like a piano and where I just don't have the familarity with the instrument to do it justice or - not the same situation - as in Kemper profiles where buying something like an Amp Factory set might well be a worthwhile option.

Not that I am advocating Boss stuff (or Line6 or anything else come to that) for sale on here.

jburns

thats an outrageous amount. i buy lots of keyboard programmed patches all the time between 4-20 dollar purchases, and depending on the set it usually comes out to around 1 or 2 bucks for each patch. theres a company called auditory and one called s4k (spaceforkeys) that sell very good ones for cheap in various forms for kontact, omnisphere, and multiple keyboards like the fantom oasys triton etc. but yea, anything over $10 bucks for a single patch is insane to even consider. at that price its safe to say the patches are ass because its clearly a rip off in the 1st place and you know your getting haggled from the get go so id assume the sounds have the same amount of decency.
ok i have just listened to the patches and yes they are crap. gt-10 has a WAY better sound than whats presented on that guys page. SCAM!

I'd bet the bloke regrets offering patches for sale now.  Such self importance has its own reward - ridicule.  The v-guitar forum is so friendly and welcoming, that you're bound to find at least half a dozen members willing to help out with a patch or two...for free!

Hows about, I pay you to take my v-synth patches off me hands?  ;D

Its also been happening at the Kemper forum - Armin comes to mind, Ive known Armin for years and he has provided a lot of support for Line6, and Zoom users for years.

But this guy takes the cake
http://kemper-amps.com/forum/index.php?page=Thread&threadID=8108&highlight=

EDIT - it appears he recently removed his Ebay listing - no doubt to avoid legal problems from Kemper

But this whole topic raises an important point.   If Anyone catches an Ebay seller trying to sell the free VGUITARFORUMS patches as a $50 CDROM Patch collection for GR-55 or VG-99 - please inform me as soon as possible.

I'm tempted to protect our VGuitarForums members patch creations and add this text in our Patch exchange areas - just to prevent someone selling other peoples work on Ebay.

Its important to point out if you created the patch, you retain ownership of your work.

Quote"Terms and conditions:
By uploading a patch, you grant VGuitarforums  the right to offer this patch to all members of the VGuitarforums community. You also grant others the right to use your uploaded patches without restrictions. Others can pass your patches on but cannot sell them in any way.

Unless clearly stated as a patch variation, you must be the original author of the patch , in other words, please do not upload other people's work. Even though we do not limit the amount of patches you can upload, please be considerate and only share strong and quality creations. We reserve the right to reject a patch and modify it in order to increase its usability for other users."

I think that is a great idea.

Might be good to include provisions for allowing members posting mods to other members patches, or did I miss that?

Good idea,
I had the misfortune of finding some of my GT editor work for sale on eBay a couple of years ago.  >:(
I lodged a complaint and had my work copyrighted on eBay.
I asked the seller why?
he replied ' I thought i was doing you a favour for those who did not have internet/download access'.
I thought great and you'r selling on an internet access auction.  :-\

The auctions were pulled BTW

Limited/GPL/LGPL licencing - you can share it, distribute it, charge a small media handling fee, but you can't sell it out right if it's not your's.

I think this text covers that scenario

"Unless clearly stated as a patch variation, you must be the original author of the patch"

and

"We reserve the right to reject a patch and modify it in order to increase its usability for other users"

"We" = any member of VGuitarForums.

and of course we have patch threads where several folks have posted the same ballpark patch with minor variations - most folks already state:

"I started with (Member_Y's) Brian May patch, and added (Member_Z's) control assignments  - and here is the result . . . "

The principal reason I added the new ""Terms and conditions" to our patch areas is to provide VGuitarForums some legal ground with auction sites where there is a high potential for VGuitar Forum Member's Property (i.e. Patches) to possibly be sold as stolen goods.

I believe most here agree thats not fair.

We have strength in numbers and by adding the "Terms and Conditions" to our patch areas, it will help provide a legal basis for Ebay Auction removal - should we ever need it.

Bottom line - if you post a variation on someone else's patch - thats cool, but you must state this fact in your post when you upload your patch.

and

If you post a patch you created, it remains your personal property, since you are the creator.

If one day you decide to sell your patches - that remains within your rights as owner of the patch.

Hey shouldnt I get some credit for bringing this to light?    How about a special thanks in the nondisclaimer.lol  Just kidding.  Im glad it helps the forum.

Elantric

Indeed.
I lifted & modified the legal text for the new terms and conditions straight from the post in the KPA forum. I had not connected who the Author was till now.

I give you full credit and karma and hope we can use your composed text.

I see patch banks for sale for synthesizers all the time, but they're usually not anything more than 15 to 20 bucks and you get (usually) 128 patches or a bank's worth of great sounds.  40 dollars much less 800 is just preying upon the ignorant, in my opinion.  What a hack.

You have to prove that you are the owner of intellectual properties.

I have heard all sorts of excuses, the best one was,
"I am not selling the content, but only the means of delivering the contents to those who do not have internet access". (I.E. only selling the disk hardware as a means of distribution).
But then you wonder how would someone with no internet access buy it off eBay in the first place. ?

More discussion on this topic here. There seems to be two of these guys on eBay one in Spain and one in the US.

VGuitarForums Patch Exchange Terms and conditions:
By uploading a patch, you grant VGuitarforums the right to offer this patch to all members of the VGuitarforums community. Of course - if you are the original creator of the patches - I have no issue with you selling your patch creations online.

VGuitarforums hosts hundreds of patches for lots of gear for free download for VGuitarforums members ( which is free to join ) , yet not much we can do for those still prefer to pay for them on ebay, instead of searching and downloading them here for free.

If you authored a patch, and uploaded it here , then determine this same patch you created is now  being sold on Ebay by empyreanfx ( who clearly downloaded these same patches from VGuitarforums and is now making a business selling these works - then you have grounds for reporting a take down to Ebay.
