Hello I've just bought a Godin Grand Concert SA and GR-55 and I'm trying to set it up to play with both: internal patches and Virtual Instruments via MainStage 3.

I saw a video with Alex Hutchins where he shows exactly that, having independent volumes... and it seems like the sound from MainStage comes back to the GR-55 so I would only have to use the Stereo Outputs from the GR-55 to the Mixer.

Actually, yesterday that I played, it just worked like that... I can could control the Guitar volume (going to an amp via 1/4) independently to the GR-55 volume (via the Midi volume slider in the guitar) ... and the volume of the computer was on even if If both volume sliders on the guitar (1/4 and Midi) were completely down... so I had three independent signals.

But for some reason, I started all the equipment today... and I didn't have that. 1/4 volume was ok, GR-55 volume was ok too... but the computer was sounding only in the Laptop (macBook Pro) speakers... and the signal of MainStage wasn't returning to the GR so it could be send through its outputs.

Could anybody help me to understand what am I doing wrong? (Drivers are ok... I'm perfectly receiving the midi signal from the Godin in MainStage... but sounding ok in the laptop speakers but not in the mixer).

By the way... just before sending this message, I tried to played a quicktime movie and sound went through the GR-55 to the MIXER... (as specified in the System preferences suggestions in the USB driver readme file) so maybe my problem is in MainStage? But I can't really find what it is.

Thanks in advanced for any help.

For many - the deal breaker for using GR-55 as only audio interface for Mainstage USB Audio output  playback is the GR-55's 125ms MUTE on every patch change  - that also mutes your USB audio playback if you change GR-55 patches mid song.

( FWIW - the GP-10 has no mutes on patch change and gap free USB audio playback, and works well )

on Apple Mainstage  - read this

and look at our Mainstage guru forum here:

and Pay attention the "APPLE AUDIO MIDI MANAGER" which is where the audio and playback settings are made

You may have to select the GR55 as soundcard in the settings of mainstage.

Elantric and Sixeight: Thanks a lot for your quick help. This was my first post in the forum and I was really impressed on how quick I received your suggestions.

Everything is going great now... I wasn't assigning my GR-55 to the Output in MainStage. Actually, I had found that screen before, but didn't notice the "apply changes" button (I thought that once you select the correct output in the dropdown menu it should change and sound correct). But anyways ... all the information you gave me helped me to understand a lot how midi works, etc... and get back to that menu until the problem was solved.

So thanks again. I really appreciate it.
