Hi folks

I wonder if anyone can answer me this question. I have just bought some Fender passport studio monitors, and I wish to send the stereo output from my GP-10 to the balanced TRS stereo inputs on the passport speakers.

Will using two TRS cables work ok for this? The GP-10 manual diagram only shows a connection from the GP-10 to an amp using unbalanced speaker cables and not TRS cables.

Many thanks in advance  :)

which specific model  Passport Monitor?

I assume the recent on sale Fender Focus Passport 150 watt monitors

paying attention to the types of cables used to connect your Passport Studio monitors can be very beneficial toward achieving a quiet and clean audio signal. As noted in the user guide, the Passport Studio monitors include balanced 1/4 inch (TRS) jacks on the rear panel. These input jacks are an ideal way to go whenever possible, as using balanced audio cables helps to eliminate possible noise and ground loops, etc. Using balanced, shielded audio cables will require that the signal you are outputting has balanced output jacks (TRS or XLR). If the output source you are coming from does not have balanced output jacks, you can use an ungrounded 1/4" TS cables to connect to the rear left and right inputs as well.

On larger stages I would use one of these in between the GP-10 and Powered monitors  - to prevent ground loops

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

You are right - they are the 150W Fender Passport 5" Portable Studio Monitors.

From the manual: BALANCED INPUTS — These jacks can be used to input balanced signals using 1/4" TRS (Tip-Ring-Sleeve) plugs where Tip=Positive, Ring=Negative and Sleeve=Ground.

I can't find anything in the GP-10 manual that explains the options/limitations of the L/R Output in terms of cables that can be used.

Thanks for your input. Most helpful. :-)

On larger stages I would use one of these in between the GP-10 and Powered monitors  - to prevent ground loops , and minimize noise from other EMI sources ( stage lights)

Use two short 1/4" TS cables from GP-10 output then into the box above , and two long 1/4" TRS cables from the outputs into each powered Passport monitor
