I understand the old Boss GT-10 allows reverb / delay tails on patch change too.

Today I would mate the GP-10 with Nux Cerberus for its Cab IR

Is the use of a Cab IR what could improve the sound the most? What about the cheaper more compact options like the other Cab IR pedals (Mooer Radar, Nux solid studio, etc)?

Well... I was asking more to see if the CABinets is the place where the most improvement in sound can be had, instead of buying a full pedalboard like the cerberus which renders everything but the modeling in the gp-10 useless.

Specially since I am trying to go with the most minimalist set-up possible as well.

indeed- yes  - an IR based CAB replacement adds a lot to the Boss COSM Amps  - the easiest to use with Boss GP-10 / GR-55 / VG-99 is the Digitech Cab DRYVR

recently on sale for $77
