I had long term borrow of one of these back in 99'
Now I have one of my own, the price was too good to pass on.

It's a US 120 volt one, hence the 240 to 120 volt converter.
It has firmware 1.02 and needs firmware 1.07 to work the midi/sysx, so I have purchased an updated Eprom chip and await it's arrival.

Now I can finish the GT-5FxFloorBoard editor (it's incompleteness has bugged me for ages).

So I own or have owned GT-5, 3, 6B, 8, 10, 10B, 100

Wow, that brings back memories.  I was using one ca. 1999 as well.  Even tried doing the "virtual" thing for a while running nothing but a GT-5 direct into a Mackie SRM-450.  The technology wasn't really ready for that approach yet, and the rest of the band was quick to let me know...  A few months later I sold the GT-5 in favor of a POD 2.0, which at the time seemed like a big step forward.

I had a GT-3 but skipped the GT-5 and went straight to the GT-8.

From the attached picture, the GT-5 would appear to be missing an "A" foot switch. ;)

But congrats nonetheless!

Actually if we are keeping accurate score - review the date code on the owners manuals

( Darn - want to see how NOT to build a Web site in 2015 )

( I cant even find the link to download Owners Manuals on the "revamped" Roland US site now!)

1995 Boss GT-5 was the first Floor pedal in the GT series

Now that I think about it (having read Steve's timeline above) I think I actually had a GT-3, not a GT-5.

gumtown

There's something wrong with those timeline dates.
I recall
1995 - GT-5 - analog OD/DS and analog preamps
1998 - GT-3 - analog OD/DS
2001 - GT-6 - 100% COSM
2002 - GT-6B
2005 - GT-8
2006 - GT-Pro
2008 - GT-10
2009 - GT-10B
2012 - GT-100

could be - but I thought the GT-8 was much older than 2005

2004 site is here -still shows GT-6 - so you are correct!

I used a trusty GT5 for quite a few years - only problem I ever had with it was the power cable being hardwired in through the case eventually snapped inside right where it goes through the case - 10 min fix though :-)

gumtown,

Thank you for all your support and dedication in developing the series of gt floorboard programs. I too have recently acquired a gt-5 and am looking forward to the new version of your GT-5 floorboard. Much appreciated.  :)

I'd love to have a GT5 again, I had that horrible rotary dial failure problem.

I think I'll consign it to memory as I recall it being the best sounding thing ever.  I fear that should I get hold of one again, my memories of the past will be shattered.

I remember when i went to my local shop in Rome, Cherubini,
and i looked for this BIG pedalboard, it was my dream.

I had just 15 y.o. in the 96 and i bought the guitar instead that pedalboard and i did the best thing.

Now after so many years i have buy one for nostalgic moments.
What i like more on this pedalboard is the possibility to put every effect in every place that you want.
When you use the synth, you don't have the possibility to put any effect more.
Plaing both Gt5 and Korg ax30G, as effects the Gt5 win, but as high gain dist Korg win.

These are old machines but for that timethey were animals.

My GT5 also have the scroll wheel failure. but I like to be forced to be patient :)

If it wasn´t that big, for sure it would be in my main pedalboard just for the Ring Modulator (love it). And the delays are quite nice, specially if you want gritty sounding ones. Roland made something amazing with the gt5 and gt3. The assign capabilities on them. You could make a boring sounding effect come to life. This was only found in quite expensive rack delays on that time. The Lexicon PCM and MPX are great examples of what can be done with clever patching (the same as assign). The Boss units were not that powerfull but more than what most guitarist were used to. I leart a lot about guitar sound design and still do usign it.

Beleive it or not, I tried it today for the first time straight to mixing desk, and I was quite surprice with how good it sounds. It is not the best sound ever, but good enough for fast gigs.

Update:
Since my first post in this topic, I have..
a. Updated the EPROM to version 1.07 (brought off eBay)
b. Removed the 120 volt AC transformer and installed a 240 volt one (local supply voltage)
c. Finished the GT-5FxFloorBoard editor the best I could, the GT-5 is quite finicky to sysEx/midi commands
d. sold my GT-5

I essentially did similar  - purchased Boss GT-5 new in 1996. Updated the ROM to 1.07 in 2000.

but eventually sold the GT-5  in 2009 as I preferred the sound and capabilities of my other MFX

fendrix

i bought this pedalboard only for to be used as midi pedalboard on all my rack effetcs.
Now as i start to sell the wall of pedals and racks, then i will sell the Gt5

wildschwein

Still running my GT-5. I like it for recording.

Hello, do you remember what the 240v transformer was that you installed? thanks

gumtown

No sorry, I can't recall what it was.
Best to measure the transformer secondary voltages in the GT-5 and try to source an equivalent with a 240 volt primary voltage.
