Title: GR-55 - JethroTull Living in the Past
Post by: papabuss on April 21, 2013, 06:31:54 AM
A patch for Ian Anderson's flute.
You can also try Bouree.
You play the bass on the two lowest strings and the flute on the top four...
Enjoy it.

Nice work papbuss. :) Do you have such a patch for the VG-99? I haven't heard a good flute sound from my VG yet.

I remember Kostas made a very  nice one here:
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=1891.0 (https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=1891.0)
Based on this patch I added a Nylon guitar and got this one:

You will find another one that I posted some time later with a bass guitar and two  flutes here:
https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=4395.0 (https://www.vguitarforums.com/smf/index.php?topic=4395.0)

When you use the SEARCH function you may find more.

Yeah - Kostas is the best.  You can hear me using it here at 8:17:

But I wouldn't say that it's a "living in the past" type flute sound - it reminds me more of a Tangerine Dream or Allan Holdsworth style "synth-flute" type sound.  It's really responsive though.

I think that posting a patch is always a good start for  everyone in this forum to tweak and make it better. And I know it often can only be the "Beta-Version" for a perfect one. I am also still searching for Ian's perfect flute settings, especially his "breath-techniques" and if this is possible with one of the GR settings. Every advice is appreciated. ;)

That chuffy breath sound sounds like a pan-pipe to me!   A short-lived pan-pipe might get the right attack.

And that flute always had a minor edge of overdrive to it...   It was a ROCK flute...

Agreed, Shawn. It sounds a little bit too "Pan-ny"  although I made the patch only for Ian's "softer" flute solos. How do we improve it for the "more rockier" parts? I also make my ideas about it....

BTW I myself noticed different qualities when downloading the mp3. I think the patch is better than the audio-file.
And it sounds better if you pluck the strings.

Papabuss - I wasn't criticizing, just making suggestions for the ROCK flute!
