For all three of my midi guitars (GK-2 series pickups)  can only get COSM or COSM/Mix, I can't get just guitar when I switch that position I get silence. In the mix position if I i turn down the cosm pickup I can hear the guitar pickup so that works.

I know when you switch the three way switch from Mix to Guitar, the VG-99/GR-55/GI-20 sends out MIDI CC#7, value 0. Is there any way for me to go into the VG-99 and make sure it's receiving that message? All my other switches on the VG-99 annd my FC-300 work.

Same response on all three guitars. I'm going crazy. Any advice appreciated.

Thank you very much!!!!

I had indeed read all this stuff, but clearly my reading comprehension was poor.

This was the answer:

"Thank you soo much!!! It was the GK VOL function! It seems that it only works when I set it to ?GUITAR VOLUME [A&B]?, did not found master volume, but it did not work on Mixer Level or Patch level."

Great news and my sanity has returned.

Glad to help

IMHO Roland threw all of us long time 13 pin users a curve ball when all 13 pin processors shipped for the past 8 years (VG-99, GR-55) ship with factory patches that can not be over written that render  the most important Switch on the GK-3 completely useless!

When I inquire with Roland Management about this bone headed decision - they tell me "non working "Guitar/Mix/Gk Synth is intentional and by design!

Roland figures all new VG-99 / GR-55 users after a day or two will learn to love and prefer the COSM Modelling , and never miss the tone of your old "normal" Seymour Duncan, EMG, TV Jones, Kent Armstrong,  (etc. ) , mag pickups  - once you hear their wonderful COSM Modeled DSP emulated versions.

Its a sensitive topic here- because there are lots of folks who do prefer a guitar with nothing but a GK-3 PU or an RMC Piezo PU, and cant hear the difference between the COSM pickup Models and the real deal .

(not me!)

This same question and my same response occurs several times a week here for past 8 years - its on my clipboard for cut & paste, so no worries ;)

Ha!  Welcome to the club!

I doubt there is one person out there who owns a VG-99 who hasn't had the same maddening problem.

Glad you sorted it...
