Well I was incorrect (probably as usual) in that I went ahead and purchased the FX and all I can say is wow!. This thing sounds much better than expected (not asking for refund). It is a bit buggy yet with mouse movements and CPU is high (12-30% CPU) on my Intel quad core Xeon with 12mb cache. But the presets on cloud have me hunting for more.

Must be on Facebook to hear the new PG BIAS FX DESKTOP demo ( fantastic)
QuoteHopefully they do not omit crucial concepts:

* Remote MIDI Control

* Stereo

They implemented both above and more

Just add a  Macbook + a N.I. Rig Kontrol 3 or an old HD-500 as a USB  / MIDI Control Interface with modified Neutrik USB connectors

and you have "Kemper Killer"

Not my cup of tea style wise  - but a demo ( apparently must be under age 21 to get preferred status on the PG BIAS FX Desktop invites)

I am very interested in this. The Helix looks amazing but I've given Line6 so much money over the last few years and they some how leave me wanting every time. Using my old HD500 with this would be awesome. I love my DT25 but really thinking of selling my bass amp and getting an Alesis or Alto powered speaker. I really didn't care for the Line6 L3T and it weighed a lot for what it was. The Alesis seems to be putting out the same wattage and a lot less weight.

I have Bias on both iPad and Mac but don't have iPad FX as I just don't use the iPad for guitar as much as I thought I would, SampleTank and OnSong only.

This software may keep an extra grand or so in my pocket and let other brave souls find out about Helix.

We think alike!

FWIW -  My old XT-Live has better MIDI Controller features than my HD500X, coupled with a Macbook Pro - I'll see which has lower latency with 24 bit Core audio.

Ive been telling the world - we need a good Floor box with USB Class Compliant 24 bit audio and good MIDI control spec  - to work as I/O  / controller for BIAS FX. (IOS or Desktop)

BIAS FX Desktop Help

http://help.positivegrid.com/hc/en-us/articles/204632909-How-to-integrate-BIAS-AMP-with-BIAS-FX-Desktop-
Quoteemailed support asking them if indeed (as a BIAS AMP Professional Owner and already paid $174) if I'd have to buy an additional plugin, or must I have to pay either $99 for Bias FX or $199 for Bias FX Professional and this was their response:

"Yes, [an additional $199 for Bias FX Professional ] is the pricing structure as it is right now.
Keep in mind, BIAS FX is not just adding effects, but dual signal path/dual amps
capability for true stereo sound. And the effects are best-of-breed for modeling plugins.
And you can import your BIAS Amps."

So if you want "Kemper style" Amp Matching capability and the BIAS Amp Expansion Packs  and want Stereo FX with promise of future remote MIDI control to make it all usable for live use you must pay:

$175 for BIAS AMP Professional

+

$199 for BIAS FX Professional
-----------------------------
$274 Total

But still way cheaper and for me gets very close to the same experience as this

PG needs to apply more effort for cultivating remote MIDI control (and support docs) for both BIAS FX (IOS) and BIAS FX PROFESSIONAL (OSX/WIN)

This is their reply

QuoteSteve,

We hear you, we plan to add more documentation soon.
(and MIDI implementation for DESKTOP is very possible very soon)

ROCK ON,

+1.  And MIDI Learn isn't enough - you need to be able to tweak ranges, etc. after the fact.  This tends to be an Achilles heel in iOS apps as a rule.  I wish AudioBus had levels and pans on node outputs, with full MIDI control implementation right there.  That would at least provide a standardized workaround for some problems.

FX just added amps, pedals, rack software and updated and ready for new tests. They are adding IR Loader for cabs and midi as well.

I just bought Bias FX desktop Pro and I like it very much. The latency is no worse than Amplitube or Guitar rig 5 but I haven't found any midi control as of yet. I found it to be more like an advanced version of Jamup and less like Bias. To do any amp design or tone matching you still need Bias desktop. It seems to use it live you need the iPad version and I was disappointed that I won't be able to use it with my Windows 8.1 tablet because of the midi issue but it still works great in my DAW and I found a way to get it as a stand alone program. I downloaded Savihost it is a small VST host that will host one VST at a time. So if they update the midi controls you might be able to use it live.

Everything from modeling to the real deal, my house looks like a music store.

Being the axeman of one of the biggest metal bands in the world is not an easy task. When touring and recording with Deftones, Stephen likes to have a number of great sounding amps and effects right at his fingertips.

With BIAS FX his pedalboard setup is now easier than ever, he says: "it's having a great amp and effects setup with the minimal effort".

Honestly they need to just combine the two programs and be done with it. I personally would add some cash up to $75 to have both together but at $154 to add Bias Amp to Bias FX doesnt help me out. I have no amps. I have Torpedo WOS. But the shaping is nice to have. Right now I get almost white noise on some amps that have been customized and others I do not. Not sure if do to IR loader in one and not the other or if amp supposed to not have that is artist. it is confusing.

All that said, it is a great program.

acousticglue

They have a couple of updates since. The FX version is totally worth buying and works very well. I am not a live player so its hard to say if midi is all fixed up. Still no stand alone or IR Loader in FX.

mordecai

I am trying to find out if they plan on implementing midi with the desktop version, not heard from them yet but it can take awhile. No automation and no midi implementation is just really poorly thought out for releasing a plugin/desktop version, seems half baked on release. How are you suppose to use a volume pedal, wah, or whammy effect while recording? I really want to love this company because the sounds I am getting on my iPad are unreal and to be able to take the sound I have in the studio to the stage with me is all the more exciting but I can't use this in the studio without some kind of update... Using Logic X pedal board I can get volume and wah before the Bias FX plug in but that's not a real fix...

acousticglue or anyone else who owns BFX Desktop, can you verify if the PolyOctaver is part of the Desktop version please. On my demo version it doesn't have PolyOctaver or Fuzz Arsenal icons anywhere, all effects are shown otherwise being greyed out but still present. I personally love the PolyOctaver and have found a lot of good uses for it.

If they can bring midi and all effects to the table in the Desktop version I am sold. But with Amplitude 4 coming down the line at $99 not sure how they can think their sales will be strong for this product at $200...
