Hi,
was just wondering whether there's any trick that allows me to apply effects over a loop recorded with just a clean guitar? This would allow me to easily tweak the effects until I got the sound I wanted without having to play the same thing on my guitar over and over.

I think you have to send a signal from an external looper in fron of GT1
I used that on SY300 before I stared using resynth/amp
but I dont think reamping is possible with gt1
swimming with a hole in my body

I play Country music too, I'm just not sure which country it's from...

I was just doing this today on my GT1. Simply select or create a nice clean sound on one of your user patches, say "U01", then create the "effected" patch (the one you'll play over the loop) as the next patch "U02".

Then you'll be able to play your loop in patch "U01" and while the patch is in playback mode, you can step up to "U02" and play the accompaniment part over it.

I hope that helps! Basically, you can switch to any other patch while the looper is in playback mode.
