Why is it that...

....if I want to get my GP-10 and GR-20 talking to each other it's cheaper to use a raspberry pi with a couple of midi/USB cables than to buy an official gk splitter cable?

You get higher latency using 5 pin MIDI connection feeding GR-20

lower latency with US-20 or GK Splitter feeding the GK 13 pin input

you can DIY build your own Gk Y Splitter cable adapter  too

the schemitic above is same as

 Roland GKP-2 GK Parallel Y-cable  is $120-$180

It's tempting seeing as I have only two devices.

I'm wondering how much of a trade off this latency will be because using a pi I can filter the midi. I could mute strings, use more than one instrument on the synth (if I turn local off?) Harmonise, arpeggiate etc.
