I'm using a line 6 Helix floorboard which has pretty compressive abilities to do midi control. I've figured out how to do patch changes
but I cant figure out how to turn any of the 6 ctrl  per preset on or off.Can anyone tell me the appropriate CC# for ctrl 1-6 to turn them on or off? is there a chart somewhere that tells on what each of the CC# will turn on and off when they are sent?

But for your needs, You must create the SY-300 MIDI CC# Control Assignments for the specific SY-300 parameter you seek using Boss Tone Studio first.

Ok, I understand that I have to go to the midii tab of the ctrl section in tone studio and turn on and assign the controllers they way that I
would to the built in switches. But what I don't understand it how to read the midi implementation doc and be able know what sequence of numbers to enter. On the line 6 helix, to program a footswitch I can send a midi continuous controller message, a bank change , a cc#toggle,  or not on or off. then I have generally 4 choices of numbers to dial and the first one is always the midi channel. I've attached a pic that shows and explains the options I have. I'm assuming it would be CC# toggle, so in my case midi channel 1, then a cc number, 0-127 , then a 0-127 off state, and a 0-127 on state number. I can't figure out what any of these should be other than the midi channel.

Typically 0 = off state, but could be any number between 0~63
127 = on state, but could be any number between 64~127

choose a cc# number that matches those in the assign source list.

If you are going to send a toggle cc# function, then set the SY-300 assign Source Mode to 'moment'.

OMG! thank you! works like a charm.  Once I knew what to do it couldn't have been easier. Over night I went from having 1 ctrl button I can use on the sy 300 to now being able to have five switches, because when only using the built in switches on the sy300 I needed the last to to go up and down the patches, and the first one to switch the pedal from wet to dry.
Now I'm curious, is the sy 300 designed to work with a control pedal, like the foot pedal on the helix that is either a wah or a volume pedal.?to work with a

Yes, the control pedal can either be an Expression pedal like the Roland EV-5, and plugged directly into the SY-300 external pedal jack.
Or a midi Expression pedal, such as those on multi effects units, which will send variable cc# range from 0~127.
