With upcoming V2 firmware (free upgrade) you also get all Katana 'new' sneaky effects, Boost and Mod at the same time, Delay and FX at the same time, all accessible using CC# from your foot controller.

Documentation/manuals and a new batch of MIDX-20 units is in production now.

Also in V2 there's MIDI filtering, virtual channels, dual channel broadcasts, CC expression curve mods, tip-heel inversion, CC/channel translation/duplication, momentary to toggling conversions and more.

Awesome! I wonder how much this was influenced (instigated?) by the excellent work of Gumtown and others from this board.

Awesome work, Robert!  I'm really looking forward to getting my hands on a MIDX-20.

Will the new firmware update include the "sneaky" amps as well? Asking because my amp arrives today, and if so, I will hold off on any tinkering.

Its important to update the Katana firmware to version 1.02  - this allows connectivity and provides a path to the hidden sneaky amps

Future Katana firmware may likely eliminate access to the Sneaky Amps / FX , - no guarantees they will ever update Katana firmware beyond version 1.02

All new Katana owners should follow all steps here:

Got it, but to be clear, that firmware v. 1.02 is NOT the same as the upcoming firmware V2 mentioned in the prior post, or is it? I am a bit confused.

This entire thread is devoted to a wish list for future Katana Firmware, (no idea what that might be called or named or what the actual features might be for this future firmware )

All New Katana owners should navigate to the post below

This topic is for "speculation and dreams" only, in the hope that someone from Boss will read this and give us the product working the way we desire..

References to "V2 firmware" are about the MIDX-20 made by PRIMOVA (user name codesmart on this forum), which provides midi interface and control for the Katana via the USB port.

Hi Friends, First post here.  Really enjoying my Kat 100 1x12. I have used it in rehearsal, in small clubs, and on a big stage outside. handled them all extremely well.

Two main requests of the Roland designers for the next Katana firmware update (and a couple of other wild card ones).

1. Give us one more bank of four patches switchable with the extra footswitch jack on the back. The jack is already there and probably accessible software-wise. Eight pre-sets would give us the choice, say, of having a tele and a les paul on stage and four patches for each.

2. give us the option to move the delay to the reverb slot.  either replacing one of the three reverb slots, OR a combined "pedal" that offered a delay and a reverb.  That would allow a mod pedal and delay in the same patch..

3.  Plus a wild card request for new effects pedals,  how about an B3 Organ pedal, a 12 string pedal, and a Dumble-style overdrive pedal?

Many thanks for the great forum.

Repurpose the gain knob for the acoustic model. I guess nobody want it adding actual distortion.

1 - Complete midi implementation for katana head (including looper when connected to Boss Tone Studio).

2- Extend expression pedal input function for any parameter.

3- Ability to change the default amp type for any sneaky amp of the same group so that we can browse through our favorite amps with the amp type knob.

4 - How to use delay and fx at the same time (may not work for panel channel): set the knob to the desired delay depth and press ch1 (or another channel you prefer) to save the setting, set the knob to the desired fx depth and press ch1 to save again. If I want only fx for example, I set delay to off and press ch1 to save then set the fx to the desired depth and press ch1 to save again. If I want only delay I set fx to off (knob at 12 o'clock). The same function will work for the booster/mod knob.

5 - Ability to used the tap button in conjunction with the effects knobs. For example, after tweaking and saving the main knobs functions (depth), pressing and holding the tap button while turning the booster will change the tone, while turning the modulation will change the rate, while turning the delay will change the number of repeats, while turning the fx will also change the rate, while turning the reverb will change the decay. Then I save everything again.

6 - Tone Setting secondary functions: if I press and hold both panel and ch1 knobs I will activate bank A (four saved presets), if I press and hold both panel and ch2 knobs I will activate bank B (four more saved presets), in the same way bank C for ch3 and bank D for ch4. That gives us a total of 16 saved presets.

7 - Ability for Boss Tone Studio to play mp3 and flac audio files.

Make it sound even better I hope.

But I got more gear than I need...and I like it!

gumtown

I want..
more channels,
more EQ options,
and S/R/loop levels set per channel.

and to be able to assign the FX EXP pedal from the GAFC pedal to be able to do more than just WAH (otherwise re-label the GAFC 'FX' port to just 'WAH/FV').

And don't kill today's Sneaky possibilities...

Yes. And make it so they don't need to be called Sneaky anymore. Make them official.

First, THANKYOU Roland/Boss for the update and for listening to our suggestions. It includes my two main requests!  fantastic. And thanks to Elantric and all the great people here contributing for this forum.

All the best to everyone.

Still not happy with the OD block fixed up front. Wah never sound good with ODs not being fuzz. It fizz-farts more than it wahs. A less rigid chain order a la gumtown's V1 solution should be an easy task to implement.
To V or not to V: That is the question.

So far the firmware 2 chain is being rather difficult,
and does not seem to be as flexible as the Firmware 1 chain.

You can move them about with your patch loader, store the order, switch presets and have fun, but the very moment I turn off the amp and turn it on again the chain reverts to the default chain selected as a base. If the new FxFloorboard sorts the patch loading I can live with that as plan B. Anyways, FxFloorboard is a major achievement.

I agree 100%, which is why I've always used a standalone wah ahead of the amp.  Too much trouble fighting with every vendor's idea of virtual effect ordering.

This is the first Roland/BOSS unit I own with the OD first in chain as standard or where it can't be moved. I'm partially ok with the dumbing down to 3 blocks, but why not let us shift those 3 blocks around to our own liking?

Explains why i stick with older firmware and Gumtowns Katana FX Floorboard Editor which allows 6 effects in any order

Here is a Reverb in 1st place
