hey guys,

i'm trying to send program changes to a digitech whammy IV from the Sy 300 midi out.  I've researched the whammy program changes but cant figure out where I can input that info in the SY 300.  The presets on the whammy change when I hook them up via midi cable but I can't figure out how to control the change i'm sending to the whammy from the SY 300. Tried both manual and in Boss Tone Studio.  Thanks for any help!  Love the Forum!

The Digitech Whammy IV has a rather arcane set of MIDI commands.

Also with Boss gear you typically can not assign specific MIDI program change messages which deviate too far from the current patch # selected.

if this is important, consider a MIDI Event Processor +

say for instance, I wanted to change from the whammy to midi program 16 and I was on patch U07 on the sy 300.  Where would i go in the Sy 300 and what info could I put in to achieve this?  THanks for the quick response

That type MIDI Patch change command message transmission  behavior is  Not supported by the SY-300

Here is what is supported

There are some specifications for midi set out by these guys
https://www.midi.org/specifications

And the specs on sending midi patch change is simple.
The device sending patch change will do so in a generic manor of consecutive increment.
The device receiving patch change will decide on how the data is interpreted.

So some midi devices will have a midi map for setting which patch to change to for any give patch change command.
so....
It is up to the Digitech Whammy to sort it out.

If it were the other way around, where the SY-300 was to follow patch change, it has a midi map menu for setting internal patch numbers to received patch changes.

Agree with Gumtown,

The major hurdle is the arcane MIDI Implementation on the Digitech Whammy IV  / V

i dont know of other gear that employs this type scenario.

Trivia - Explains the problems with  Virtual Jeff (Virtual whammy ) that only works with this same model Whammy pedal

FWIW - last August I tried Virtual Jeff with a Digitech Whammy DT, and that did not work , as the Virtual Jeff was designed to work specifically with the Digitech Whammy IV / V

thanks everyone.  I'm currently controlling the Sy300 and a Tc electronic nova system using a tech 21 midi mouse.  I was hoping that I would be able to daisy chain the whammy after the Sy 300.  Guess I'll just do it the old fashion way and step on the pedal!
