I'm very happy with a Primova Sound cable from Mr. Code Smart :-)

same here. My 1st guitar amp was a tube phonograph amp. I grabbed it from my parents rather large tv,phonograph, and radio combo unit, and grabbed the speaker also.

As a snotty teenage punk who just wanted to blaze like Hendrix, I burned up a Macintosh power amp, my dad's pride and joy of his hi-fi kit. Oh, man, but it sounded great -- throughout the neighborhood!

I see praise for the Gittler cable, but it's useless to me because of the right-angle plug.

I use external GKs more than internal, and if I ever get around to installing my next internal GK, I'm still going to plan on siting the jack in a place that's friendly to straight plugs, because they're more common. *or so I believe, knowing only what I learn here*

I believe Primova's on War Department duty now, so I may have to go with another Best-Tronics cable. I recently bought some rubber self-sealing rubber splicing tape* for another purpose. Maybe I should wrap the B-T cable's plug end, near the 'strain relieve' section, to keep the plug housing from sliding down. That's my only prob with the cable: the housing is loose and slides away. Well, the pins also don't line up properly sometimes, now that I think about it, but I've only got one. Maybe not a representative sample.

Speaking of the Department, I have to mop the floors today, so I'll make one more post, have another cup o java, and break out the bucket.

I like the cables with one one right angle plug.

I have one guitar with an external GK and another with an internal. With the internal GK I run the right angle into the guitar, with the external, I run the straight into the guitar.

The Gitlers that I bought are great, but not the least expensive. Code Smart's are supposed to be very good and less expensive. I'm planning on picking up a couple.

mooncaine

Sounds good... unless you use a VG-99. That right-angle plug's no good for me there.

HecticArt

Ahhhh. True story.
The cable doesn't care which direction it's running, but the 99 does.

CodeSmart

Hey, I have plenty of cheap but great 3 and 5 meter cables in stock.
Only straight-straight at the moment, but I'll be arranging new straight-angled 3 & 5 meters asap.

I use them myself all the time because all my Rolands (4 pcs 5m) ended up having severe issues after real world abuse, glitches and noice etc.
Not kidding, these are great. A little bit stiffer cable but it's not a problem.

Ugh.  Now I'm trying to find out who/where I should get a cable to replace the original cable that came with my VG-99 (2008! 9 years isn't bad is it?)  Everything works except the A string has slowly become less and less present (yes I've used the appropriate recommended pin cleaners discussed here and I think it's the cable internal wiring this time).

The right angle Gittler cable is a no-go since the guitar end on one of my guitars is a GK-3 the other is a Roland Ready Strat with a GK2A.

So both ends will probably have to be straight.  BTPA looks good.

I see a lot of "alleged Planet Waves" cables on amazon.com or ebay for $20 but that seems too good to be true right?

I wonder if this one isn't a Kenwood car stereo control cable rather than a GK cable:

Lots of Roland cables for $40-90:
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=roland+13-pin+cable

This also seems suspiciously inexpensive:

Any other suggestions?

I can say that I fully endorse Codesmart's GK 13 cables,
where I previously had problems with noisy connections and strings dropping out,
Now my tone is noise free and working 100%.

Highly recommended. !!   :)

I have tried one of Primova's cables and I can recommend it. No noise, works, feels solid. Would definitely buy them again.

I've got the Ghost bridge with Hexpander module (works much better than the GK3 for my PRS).

I'm sick of the 13pin DIN's intermittent connections and am changing it to a D-sub 15HD connector similar to a VGA cable connector.  It has gold contacts and the pins are larger and more robust. Plus, it has two locking screws for securing it to the mating plug and I can service it myself without having to spend the money on a new cable.  You can't do a service repair on a 13-pin DIN.  I'm only doing this on the guitar end since it sees much more movement than the GR-55 end...

others have used VGA HD15 cables too.

I completely understand your frustrations...

...that is why I developed the Synth-Linx Jack alternatives.

By all means PM for further information if you feel this may help you.

Kind regards,

thanks but the deal is, I'm trying to get away from the DIN13.. GraphTech is interested in my results.  I'm hoping they will allow the user the option of the standard 13DIN or the 15HD.  Mounting to the Hexpander board is almost a direct swap (connector mounting hole to bracket positions) but you can't use a right-angle PC mounted connector since it's a different footprint on the board and a new mounting plate is required.  I think it will all be worth the effort and I'm glad I'm not the only one who has thought of this and that the results have been positive.

Hey guys, I'm looking to get a new 13-pin cable for my rig. Ten footer is fine, but I'd like:

- Better 'quality' than the Roland (it's just fine, but it just seems cheap).
- Right-angle out (I know, probably not available). When I play on the couch, the cable gets bent sharply on the couch, etc.

Any ideas now that Planet Waves no longer seems to be making these?

Thanks!

Has anyone buy this 13 pin cable from this seller on ebay, and how good is it
