I tried searching on this topic for this forum and got no hits.  Not good news, I'm thinking.

I have an M-Audio Delta 66 PCI card that came with a Break Out Box, which offers 4 ins and 4 outs. It's a basic unit that I've exploited heavily for use with my DAW. Just recently I learned that M-Audio also offered an Omni box for their Delta cards, which has the same number of INs and OUTs, as I understand, but which also has a whole front panel of controls. Now, this I suspect can be rather useful for optimizing the audio signal before it enters the digital mix.

So I'm curious if anyone here has used this setup. If you have, mind telling me what you think of it?

I found a few on eBay that are going for a reasonable price, and I'm thinking about going ahead and adding one to my DAW.

Best,
Michael

Thats because our focus is DSP hex processed guitars - not M-Audio Interfaces.

Elantric, you reviewed an M-Audio interface in this subforum. That's why I decided to post my message here.

I've posted a similar message over at the M-Audio legacy forums, but that place is almost a ghost town, which is why I figured I'd give it a try here.

Myself - I never owned a M-Audio Audio Interface.

Germanicus supplied a review of M-Audio Delta 1010 here (perhaps thats what you saw?)

Yep, that's what I saw, mea culpa. You started the thread and I just wasn't paying attention as to the poster.

I've been very happy with my Delta 66. It's about 12 years old now and its specs are still good enough even for today's recording applications. 24/96, works very well with ASIO4ALL, typical latency is so low it's undetectable.  Same is true for that 1010 that germanicus reviewed, by the way.

The Delta cards, through their analog connections, whether using the attached cables as that 1010 shows, or via the Break Out Box or Omni box, provide a pretty effortless way to convert analog audio to digital. The Delta cards also have premium AD converters, so the sound remains true. Same goes for the reverse. The DA converters also do a good job. My Break Out Box has 4 OUTs, which I have running to a set of studio monitors and also to an old (but good) ADCOM stereo system.

On a V-guitar -- or GR -- note, with the Break Out box or Omni box arrangement, it also provides a seamless pathway for bringing older GR's or VG's analog outs into a digital mix. No need for additional interfaces like the Alesis iO2 or M-Audio Fast Track, etc.

An Omni box was on eBay for a low opening bid -- the auction closed yesterday. It had received one bid at the time of the auction close, so I went ahead and bid on it. Got it for the next bid increment above $14.95. What, $15.45, I think. A good deal, I reckon.

Right now, I'm using only two of the INs on my Break Out Box. I'm sending a stereo signal in from my iPod Touch 4G, which is running IK Multimedia's Amplitude. This configuration works very well. I don't have to mess with a big, bulky amp yet I'm getting equivalent sounds.  I have a good set of computer speakers with subwoofer so I can even listen to it without headphones. My next project will be to see if I can get Guitar Rig to work with it. For that, though, I'll  need to have a clean guitar signal coming in to the PC. And then see if I can bring Guitar Rig into Cakewalk Sonar as a rewire device. That should be I hope not too interesting.  Last time I tried to bring a rewire device into Sonar, it crashed.
Best,
Michael

Its typically best to have access to a Audio Interface that features at least 6 Analog Inputs and 6 Analog outputs

Then you can take advantage of advanced Gk13 techniques like Re-amping with GR-55 or VG-99
