Also the way the wood of the acoustic and the box adds to what the pickup hears as well as the string coming over a bone bridge as opposed to a metal one. The guage of the strings makes a huge difference and the wound third. Your mileage may vary but Im noticing a huge difference in the useability of the acoustic models triggering them this way. I tried using the Martin Marquis on my Godin LGXT which has a piezo pickup and it didnt come close to the Takamine triggering the models. Im hooked. Ive got a bunch of acoustics now from the 99 as well as the Tak. Life is good.

Its been said before  - the trick Bill Ruppert told me about his great VG-99 Acoustic guitar simulations is using a very light touch.

In my case, if I use a Strat with 009's,  I have too much instinct in my technique which does not help  - as I tend to get the adrenaline flowing and then I "dig in" and strike the strings far too hard during VG COSM Modeled acoustic solos when I want to sound "Steven Stills" -like.  If you play softer the acoustic models in VG-99 / GR-55 are far more convincing. So use restraint.

QuoteWOW Steve, that DiPinto is WAY cool, man. Are those still available?

They are back in stock

Just to update this old thread -

In 2015 there remains misconceptions comparing

* Line-6 Variax  / Tyler Variax

vs

* Roland VG99/Boss GP-10

vs

* Antares ATG-1

On other forums folks get caught up debates that:

"Roland uses Modeling"

and

"Variax uses Profiling"
http://line6.com/support/topic/12573-is-the-variax-more-of-a-profiler-than-a-modeler/

These debates are rather like saying 1965 Porsche, Volkswagon Bug, Chevrolet Corvair, are not "Cars" -  since all lack on Engine in the front!

For the record, All Guitar products above employ identical signal chain order in their signal processing

One per string multi-channel  PU > six  A/D converters> DSP Digital Signal Processing ( where math is applied) > D/A converter> Analog Output

They differentiate in:

* Where is the DSP? ( in the Guitar or in the GK-13 pin processor)

* Accuracy of the signal processing

Each year all three companies implement updates that can leap frog each other, and it comes down to personal taste and ears - some prefer Chevy Camaros, others prefer Ford Mustangs!

Observe I have not mentioned MIDI - because MIDI plays NO role in generating sound for any product mentioned in this post
