Hey, y'all!

Here's a scenario that maybe you can help me with...please!  lol

I've got the Boss GT-10, and here's the deal...

First off, yes, I've been to the support page, yes, all instructions have been followed, etc, etc.  My problem is, my PC isn't even 'seeing' the GT-10 when plugged in via USB any more. I've uninstalled, and reinstalled the driver.  Three times now.  But even still, you'd think if I simply connected the darn thing, the PC would at least recognize that "something" has been plugged into the USB port.  Not even a whimper of recognition. Nothing.

Yes, I've tried different USB cords, Yes, I've rebooted. Yes, the driver setting on the pedal is set to advanced...all the normal stuff.  It's so weird.  It worked before, but now...nada.

Thanks much.

If you randomly try different USB ports on your computer for the GT-10 connection, You will clobber the Roland GT-10 USB driver .

if you are running Windows 7 or less , You should try the Roland Cleanall utility
http://www.roland.com/support/by_product/v-synth/updates_drivers/1702

then identify your operating system and download the GT-10 USB driver - but this time carefully read the USB driver Installation instructions - contained in the "README.htm" file

And label the USB 2.0 port on your computer that you used when installing the GT-10 USb Driver, and always use that same physical port.

If your computer only has USB 3.0 ports - you might need use a different computer that still has USB 2.0 ports

About this driver

This is the GT-10 driver for Microsoft® Windows® 7 64-bit Edition.
This driver also supports ASIO(Steinberg Audio Stream I/O Interface) 2.0.

System requirements

This driver has the following requirements.

Operating System
Microsoft® Windows® 7 64-bit Edition
*   This does not work with the 32-bit Edition of Windows 7.
Computer
A computer with a USB connector that supports USB Specification Revision 1.1 or higher
*   This driver cannot be used in a virtual Windows environment, such as Windows XP Mode (Virtual Windows XP) or Virtual PC.
*   Macintosh computers running Microsoft Windows are not supported.
Caution when using the Windows 7 64-bit Edition

In order to use this product with the 64-bit Edition of Windows 7, please read and understand the following points. You must also take into account the compatibility of each product you will be using.

In order to use the 64-bit Edition of Windows 7, you must use 64-bit drivers; not only for this product, but also for all hardware you're using with your computer.
This driver has been tested on several computer systems, but please understand that we cannot guarantee it will operate on your particular computer.
Cautions and Limitations

Sound interruption or other less-than-perfect outcomes may be experienced if your computer's performance and specifications are somewhat inadequate. The types of applications you use and the way in which you use them can also influence the experience you receive.
On some computers, the driver does not load correctly if the GT-10 is already connected when Windows is started up. As a result, it will not be possible to use the GT-10 via USB. If this occurs, wait until after Windows has started to turn on the power of the GT-10 (or to connect it).
If the GT-10 does not work correctly after resuming from Sleep mode, you should exit all applications that use the GT-10, and then turn the power of the GT-10 off and on again.
If the USB cable is disconnected and reconnected while the GT-10 is in use, or if the power of the GT-10 is turned off, then on again, it may stop operating correctly. If this occurs, after resuming, you should exit all applications that use the GT-10, and turn the power of the GT-10 off, then on again.
If your computer was experiencing a heavy processing load, such as when accessing a CD-ROM Drive or network while the GT-10 was being used, the GT-10 may no longer operate correctly. If this occurs, stop the playback or recording, then try starting playback or recording over again. If you are still unable to play back or record, quit all programs that are using the GT-10, then turn the GT-10 off and then on again.
Audio clicks and pops may occur during playback or recording if you connect or disconnect other USB devices (such as USB memory) or turn another USB device on/off while using the GT-10.
In some cases, you may not obtain the expected level of performance if you're using a USB-connected hard disk at the same time as the GT-10. Do not use a USB-connected hard disk as the storage destination for the audio that you're playing back or recording.

About the items in the Settings dialog box

Audio Buffer Size
You can adjust the audio input/output buffer size. (By default, this will be the sixth position from the left.)
Decreasing the buffer size will shorten the latency and improve realtime performance, but might make it more likely that you will experience audio clicks and pops, depending on your computer's processing power and the song data load.
Increasing the buffer size will lengthen the latency, but will make audio streaming more stable, and it will be less likely for audio clicks and pops to occur.
In general, you'll probably want to decrease the buffer size for better realtime performance if you're playing a software synthesizer in real time, or if you're monitoring an audio input that's being passed through your DAW software.
Conversely, you can increase the buffer size to prevent audio clicks and pops if you're recording or playing back song data that contains numerous tracks and presents a heavy processing load.
By changing the buffer size as appropriate for your situation, you can obtain the right balance between realtime performance and audio streaming stability.
* Note!
After you've changed the "Audio Buffer Size," make sure to restart all applications which are using the GT-10. Then, if you are using a program that offers a function for testing audio devices, we recommend that you run such tests.
Also, you may want to check to see if your application is one of those that provides a setting for adjusting the buffer size.

ASIO Buffer Size
This is the minimum buffer size that can be set by the ASIO application.
*   Depending on the application you're using, there may be other buffer sizes that can be set in addition to the minimum buffer size, and the buffer size shown here might not match the actual buffer size.
For details on setting and checking the buffer size, refer to the owner's manual for your application.

"Use Smaller ASIO Buffer Size" check box
If this check box is selected, the buffer size when using ASIO-compatible applications will be made smaller.
If you experience pops or clicks when this check box is selected, deselect this check box.
*   You must deselect this check box when adjusting the "Audio Buffer Size."

"Use ASIO Direct Monitor" check box
Check this if you are using the ASIO Direct Monitor function with an ASIO-compatible application.

The "Light Load" check box
Normally, you should leave this check box cleared.
*   The modified setting will take effect after you turn the power of the GT-10 on/off.

"Show README" button
This button displays the README file (this document).

At the left, click "Advanced system settings."
If a dialog box regarding User Account Control appears, click [Yes].
*   If you are asked to enter the password of an Administrator account, log on to Windows as a user whose Account Type is Administrator, then perform the settings again.
Click [Settings] of the Performance section, and then click the [Advanced] tab.
Select "Background services," and click [OK].
Click [OK] to close "System Properties."
Do the sample rate settings match?
You must set the sampling frequency that's been specified through the audio settings of the application so it matches the GT-10's sampling frequency.

Could the Windows monitoring function be enabled?
If the Windows monitoring function is enabled, the input sound might be heard in duplicate (doubled), or a feedback loop (oscillation) might occur.
If so, disable the Windows monitoring function as follows.
Open "Control Panel," click "Hardware and Sound," and then click "Sound."
*   If the icon view is selected for the Control Panel, click "Sound."
In "Recording," select GT-10's "IN," and click "Properties."

Holy crackin'!  That's a lot 'o' reading!  Thanks!!  I'm gonna give this a shot tonight.  That Roland wipe-all thing may just do the trick!  Funny you mentioned that cause when I tried to reinstall the driver, it starts, and then a window (belonging to the driver install) comes up saying there's a problem, and to use the uninstall.  I already did that.  Several times.  This is exciting!  Cant wait to get home, thank you!  I'll report back with an update!

Starscream

But....one more thing that I think may be key.  I tried to connect the GT-10 after it wouldn't work on my Vista pc, to a Windows 8.1 machine.  Same thing, even when set to 'standard' in the USB settings.  The other computer didn't even realize a USB connection was made. Zip.  Not even an "oop!  something just got plugged in!"  Zero.

Could that spell bad news?

Thats normal - Roland / Boss gear is  NOT "plug & Play"  - you must follow the Boss GT-10  USB driver installation instructions for your specific Operation system Step by Step.

Get the  Boss GT-10 USB Driver for your specific Operation system here
http://www.bossus.com/products/gt-10/downloads/

Download the *.zip file - and expand it into a new folder on your PC, and be absolutely sure to read the "README.HTM" file for step by step installation instructions

Excellent.  This is all great stuff.  I wonder what the heck happened? It was working just fine about a month ago, then poof. NO FX FLOORBOARD FOR YOU!

Can't wait to start fresh.  I love this dang GT-10.  I hope it comes back to life, when it comes to USB functionality!

P.S.  You guys have been INFINITELY more helpful than that bloody Tribes forum / desert.  Trying to get support from Roland is like trying to baptize a cat in the river.  Good effing luck to ya!  lolz

Well, judging by the amount of threads, and members, this has been a resounding success!!  Awesome!!

So...I know, I know...no crystal ball or anything, but...is there a chance that the USB port on my GT-10 could be gooched?  No idea how that could happen, I take great care of my gear.  More of a curiosity to if you've ever heard of that happening before...

Elantric

Sure its possible - but unlikely. Unless USB cable got stepped on, stressing the internal right angle USB Type B jack  and cracked the internal GT-10 PC board

I would be sure you have a new USB 2.0 cable labeled with the code 24/2C ,  and using a computer that has a USB 2.0 port (not a USB 3.0 port), and carefully follow the USB driver instructions

Best USB cables are described here

There is a possibility the GT-10 USB port is toasted.

You can also use a USB-Midi device adapter, a good brand one, like the Roland UM-One.
Avoid the cheep USB-Midi devices, as they don't work.

Right, so...home now, and using the Roland Driver wipe thing...stay tuned, and cross 'em all.

HAHAHA!  Looks that way...dang.  Thanks all.  I just did a system restore, so one last gasp, here...

gumtown

One last resort is to try a driver manual install.
In your Windows device manager, with the GT-10 USB connected, look for the "unknown USB device" if it exists.
Take note of the downloaded GT-10 driver file, if it is compressed/zipped, then expand/unzip it to a known folder.
The 'unknown USB device' ( or what ever it may be represented as), check 'update driver' and steer to the GT-10 driver folder to find the .inf file.

It might work..

Starscream

And there's the thing. Hasn't shown up in device manager since this fiasco started. Bollocks!  Like I said, I may as well have inserted a pencil into the usb drive. Zero recognition of anything at all.

So...

The Roland midi to usb cord. Will that work just like the regular usb cord that's all messed up at this point? And I'll be able to use that awesome fx floorboard?

...what a pain this all is. And I thank you all.

Yes..
Just select "UM-One" as the midi I/O device in the editor Preferences/Midi menu.

Excellent. Now, to get the driver completely uninstalled. Save another sys restore, seems impossible. Neither the Roland utility or a normal uninstall takes it completely out. When I try to then install it again, it shows that damn problem screen. Joy.

Well, I'm normally not one to do this, but I have thrown in the towel.  I'm wasting more time on this lately than actually playing. Bought the Roland USB / MIDI cable yesterday, drivers installed just fine. Went to install the GT-10 driver and got stuck in that damn "a problem may have occurred" loop.  No matter what I do, delete registry entries, uninstall utility that comes with the driver, Roland Clean All utility, updating the PC, Rebooting a million times, System restores, CCleaner, anything.  Nothing seems to work.  If anyone has any ideas how the blazes to get out of that driver loop it's stuck in, lemme know.  At this point, I'm stumped and give up for now.

For now.

Here's that stupid, rage-inducing godforsaken screen that JUST...KEEPS...HAPPENING!
