Hi

I am completely new to recoriding/mixing. I just want to be able to do some basic recording of my own songs with gr55 direct into mixer with adding a drum track and potentially overlaying tracks from the gr55 (keys, strings etc.) What is the easiest way? Is there some software which will do this?

thanks

By no stretch of the imagination is it the best, but you can download Audacity for free and do multitrack recording/editing easily with many effects. It's also a simple to use so a good starting point. Moving on from there you could maybe try Presonus studio one, which is a more traditional software multitracking but also free.

Having said that, it's a field where everyone will probably give you a different answer. Have fun.

Audacity is great - ( but far lower latency on a Mac with Roland GR-55 OSX Core Audio drivers)

Only Hurdle with using GR-55 with Audacity on Windows is, Audacity does not support ASIO Driver - and there is no WASAPI Audio Driver for GR-55, so high latency may be an issue when overdubbing using GR-55 with Windows and Audacity with the GR-55 MME driver

I suggest Reaper  - which fully supports the GR-55 ASIO driver on windows

Hello Elantric

I agree about Audacity but as Shopstartuk is completely new I thought it best to start simple without getting into Asio drivers etc. I'm familiar with Reaper but I'd never tried n-track before. They both look amazing value for the price. However to try something at no cost with Asio support I would give studio one a go.

I've used it in the past, it's quite intuitive to use and fairly well featured.

Avid will be releasing a free,  presumably barebones version of Pro Tools soon:

It may work for you while also introducing you to a so-called industry standard DAW.

Thanks everyone. Which of these will allow me to easily add a drum track to my recording (without having to create it via the gr55 or plug in a drum machine)?

thanks again

Your best bet is a separate application to create a drum track. Try a drum sequencer prog called Hydrogen. You can create a drum track, export it and then import it into your recording software.

So gumtown moniker is now real name Colin?

...not unless gumtown has moved to Scotland without telling us..

A bit confusing this.
I am not Gumtown, I do live in Scotland and I've only been to New Zealand once for work ;D
However there seem plenty evidence on these boards that Gumtown IS also called Colin.

Thx for all your support here in this forum and especially to YOUR GR55 floorboard Editor!
Have a nice day and enjoy it. :)"

Hello Fusion

Its certainly not a problem. I was just wanting to clear it up. :)
If you come over to Scotland I'm sure you will be made more than welcome here.

Cheers

Hi  :D
I'm Colin
but my real name is Gumtown (it's also the name of the road I live on too).

I did have a great grand-father from Scotland (via NovaScotia).
My relatives on that side just love their single malt straight (or with only ice).

Everyone seems to have some connection with Scotland.

Even if its only the whisky  :P

As SNL used to put it, "If it's not Scottish, it's crap!!"

"If it's not Scottish its crap!"

Just looked it up on YouTube. Yep that's a pretty accurate representation of Scottish people ;)

Honestly, I think Mike Myers speaks with a Scottish accent more often than I do. ;D

You know that soon, a Moderator is going to lock this thread, don't you..  ?

...probably because they aren't Scottish..  ::)

Yes I suppose it's irony that communication inspires censorship and blocking of fellow musicians just having a chat or saying hello.
Myers' father was Scottish with an English mother before coming out of Canada. The line "We have a piper down", always made me laugh and used it a lot in the band as a joke.
As a hoot if you watch Jeff Beck Live At Ronnie Scott's Jazz club Mike and his wife are sitting in the front row table obviously fans of Beck. On a closer glimpse you can see Robert Plant and Jimmy Page sitting in the back.

I'm Scottish from the Urquhart clan that has a castle on the banks of the Loch Ness. I couldn't afford bagpipes or a real kilt so I had to settle for an electric guitar. Works for me! ;D

I don't see not affording bagpipes as a problem... ::)

Yeh, Probably agree about the bagpipes.

Anyway you cant get more Scottish than Deacon Blue.

Thanks for the link Jim. Looks like an interesting Drum VST - price sure is great! I know someone who is looking for guitar effects only (not amp sim) VST's to use in reaper. Do you know of any good ones to recommend? Free or paid.

Thanks! 8)

Here are some free links. Reaper will automatically bridge 32 and 64 bit plugins, it is the only DAW that I know that will do this without JBridge.

Hi Guys, I have a basic question and didn't want to open a thread just for it.

Question is: Can I send audio from the GR55 through the USB and reproduce that audio from my sound card?

At the moment I am getting the sound that I record in my computer from the GR55 headphones (when the gr55 is set up as the sound driver of the daw) but I couldn't manage to reproduce the sound from my main speakers when connected through USB.

THANKS!

szilard

Yes. Usually there is something to enable hearing/audtioning the input signal on a channel. Also you normally have to route the input to an output.
