Cool!  It's like 1986 all over again. :)  I had no idea Ibanez had released this guitar.

My Ibanez 30 fret now GK-ified!

Reminds me of a Caparison guitar.  So many frets lol.

Had some fun with "Old Dusty" this morning. Haven't used this guitar for a long, long time. Needs a fret job and some new sadles, but sounds and plays surprisingly well despite it's flaws.

To V or not to V: That is the question.

In my lair with my new $99  HSS Squier Strat w/GK-2a that runs into my good ol' GR-33. Bought the guitar at GC a few weeks ago, during their Columbus Days sale, and I bought it specifically to be a host for my GR-33's GK-2a pickup. I was tired of my American Standard Strat being the donor instrument and not being able to put it in its case when it wasn't being used. I tell you what, it's almost embarrassing how well this Squier plays. It's the best playing $99 guitar I've ever come across. Handles the GK-2a with zero problems. Latency and tracking are great.

Best,
Michael

Very interesting. I'm thinking of putting together a baritone-necked guitar, using the Warmouth bari neck. Do you know your guitar's scale?  What do you tune yours to?  Looks like you're having a good time with it!

Years ago, a friend of mine and I ran across what we thought was a baritone necked DanElectro that upon further research turned out to be a 6-string bass! Had us fooled!

Nice GK Strat Cooltouch.

I agree today's Squire Strats are amazing deals.

Im a bit if a collector of cheap asian knockoff guitars. Own many RondoMusic SX. GuitarFetish Jazzmastes, DiPinto Galaxie IV , Dan Electros. But paid more than $99 for those

Not off hand, I'll measure it tomorrow.

It's currently tuned to an A.

I kinda figured as much judging by your avatar. Isn't it funny -- as soon as I knew anything about guitars, I would snicker and laugh at those bizarre approximately guitar shaped objects that mostly were coming out of Japan in the 60s and early 70s. But time can do strange things to perception.  These days, they've become hot collectibles, and I attribute much of the collector interest is due to the absolute strangeness of many of those things -- and perhaps the equally bizarre sounds they emit.  Although I must confess that I never played any. My first guitar was a single pickup Harmony H-14 solid-body, a no frills, decent player with rather ho-hum looks. Got the job done, though, and set me out on the perilous path of musicianship.

Here it is in all its glory, or lack thereof. Mine was purchased new in 1965, and I think that it, bundled with a little Supro amp cost about a hundred bux. That Supro was a trip. Turn it up much past 5 and you got overdrive galore. Check out the Harmony's easy access all the way up to the 17th fret. I don't remember what that switch was for but I remember thinking it was cool that it had one.

Best,
Michael

It's currently tuned to an A.

You mean A an octave below the 5th string?  Wow, that's low!

I build classical guitars, and one of my specialties has become 10-string classicals. The way I construct mine, the 10th string is tuned to a low "A". But the scale is a standard classical scale: 650mm or 25.6". In order for that low A to sound sonorous and not flappy, I have to use a pretty fat string for it -- about a 0.065" as I recall.

Assuming yours has a longer scale, you can get by with thinner strings because of the physics of strings -- the longer the string is when tuned to a given pitch, the higher its tension is. Which means basically the longer the scale, the thinner the string requirements tend to be.

Best,
Michael
