I installed the free version of Amplitube on my laptop and connected via USB to the GR55.  It sounded pretty good and there was no noticeable latency.

Would this type of setup be a feasible way to add more/better amp models and effects to the GR55?  I mainly want to be able to use the guitar models on the GR55, not the synth sounds.  Am I missing anything?  Is there a better way to do this?

Thanks!

GR-55 works  - but some (not all) do experience sluggish GR-55 user control slow down anytime the GR-55 is connected to a computer via USB.

FWIW - The VG-99 has superior USB routing options for using VG-99 strictly as a "virtual Variax" Guitar Modeler - to feed a third party PC/Mac based amp modleler. Perhaps Mac works best in this regard as I find the Roland USB drivers have lowest latency on a Mac

Would it be "better" to use an interface like a stealth plug instead of USB?

Stealth Plug uses its own USB driver.

Its all down to locating the gear with the best efficiency and lowest latency USB Driver -

RME would be my 1st choice
