Hi guys, i have a strange problem with my GR 30, i've noticed that when i play the 3rd,4rd or the fifth fret on the A string of my guitar, the synth sound "goes up" to the higher octave of the note that i'm playing. For instance, if i'm playing the D note on the fifth fret of the A string, after some seconds by holding  it turns itself into its higher octave, why? somebody could help me?

many thanks to everyone

I have seen this happen when the action is too low and you have fret buzz.

What type guitar and 13 pin pickup do you have?

The GR-30's Guitar to MIDI algorithm can be fooled due to all the harmonic overtones that fret buzz produces, and send out a MIDI note an octave higher than desired.
.

For best Guitar to MIDI tracking with a steel string guitar, try Flatwounds -
I like D'Addario "Chromes"

Hi Elantric,
I use my GR 30 with an Ibanez Prestige SV 5470 equipped with a Roland GK 3 mounted by myself,
at the moment I use D'Addario strings, XL nickel round wound. Do you suggest me to use D'adario XL chromes Flatwounds to achieve a better guitar to midi tracking?
About the action matter, it's not too low, it's a normal height action, i'll check it again the next time that i'll change the strings.

thank you,

I would re-read the GK-3 installation guide and follow all instructions

Also there are far  better sources of GR-30 info and troubleshooting than we can provide here.

I suggest you join these groups as they have much better experience and hardware specific tips on using the Roland GR-30 than we can provide here.
