Here is my first PDF document on patch creation. I am going to post more detailed opinions on what I have learned on this topic.

If you like, perhaps others may contribute additional points and concepts on GR-55 patch creation on this thread.
My goal is for our collective efforts to create a "VGuitarForums Roland GR-55 Super Guide" type PDF, full of tips and tricks and nitty gritty patch creation concepts, with diagrams and pics.

Until then,  all GR-55 users should download all VGuitarforums GR-55 User to User docs here:

Closest thing to a Roland GR-55 idiots guide is here:

I never meant to imply that I would be the only one contributing in this thread. I was just starting a thread where I could share some details on the GR-55 that could be useful to help others create some great patches. I have found that this piece of gear has a huge learning curve. I only wish to share some detailed information with the users of the forum. I am sorry If I came across in any other way.

There are so many things I forgot to mention. One thing is that that the amps sound better with a volume of about 80. The problem with that is when blending or switching to acoustic guitars and PCM synths the amp is too loud. the solution is to lower the volume of the mic down in the cab sims.

Great information!!  Wish I would have understood all this a week ago!  You have been a HUGE help for me to understand the controls and assigns.  I'm sure there are others that have had to lean on you for your knowledge.  I truly appreciate your help!!

If you look in the patch section other/some new patches I have posted some patches and mp3's I whipped up today. They all have some cool control assigns.

Here is some stuff that will be leading to the midi side of the GR-55. It mostly refers to GK-3 pickups, but it may be helpful to all hex pickup users.

Thanks Elantric, I have so many thoughts about the GR-55 and want to share them. I wanted to put them into a single document, but everytime one thought occurs to me my brain gets filled with all these other ideas. Plus I get impatient when I'm typing and it is easier to have some short ideas so I don't get too scattered and off topic. maybe someday I will have a detailed organized document worthy of being a "GR-55 Supplemental Manual". With the help people like your self I'm sure that goal may not be that far off.

Thank you again.
Jimmy.

something i've found useful when playing around with new patches.
more of a work flow thing than a technical consideration.

I set aside an entire bank for one patch.  Setting up patch one with my basic 'formula', all the settings that I know I must have.  Copy that over to patch 2 and 3.  Then I play around rather wildly with 2 and 3 to get variations, some might end up being very unusable, sometimes it works out nicely.

particularly useful when you've got a lot of variables you want to compare, back and forth.

Like playing around with a modular synth, sometimes I end up tweaking things for minutes on end untill I've totally forgotten what my initial settings sounded like.  Creating a sequence of save states can be useful.

This pdf is super-useful and very well written. I hope other newbs like me succeed in finding their way here. Thanks Jimmy.

I'm glad to see that I have helped some other people enjoy their Roland product a little more. I always encourage people to personal message me with any questions and I am open to video chats as well.
