IMHO - If the world was a smarter place, with smarter guitarists who understood physics and recording studio audio signal processing techniques there would be more market demand for a suitable Roland VG-99 replacement
I'm not holding my breath for a new VG-99 anytime this decade.

alas  - most guitarists look at the VG-99 controls above with similar disdain as trying to spell check their Resume with a 1961 IBM 360

We have been "dumbed down"

Neither am I. But I do hope there will be some Boss/Roland product that will get me really excited again. After the GP-10 there is nothing from Roland that felt like a step forward to me...

Youtube subtitles track worse than a GR700 :-)

It's true.  Every time I play out everyone is amazed.  But when I see others play out, it's strats through tube amps or les pauls through marshalls more often than not.

The "tried and true and easy to configure" deal wins out.

Too bad.

Innovation in guitar equipment became a bad thing sometime in the nineties.
I guarantee that the Beatles or Hendrix would have been all over a VG-99.
