Its well known that Roland drags its heels on releasing updated drivers, and specifically why i recommend folks who wish to remain productive to review the Roland Driver status page for their Operating System and use google search to read up on current status of working drivers for all your other gear you rely on for work.

Note when seeking straight info in these matters, I always go to the source - link below I bookmark (and re-check weekly) is the Roland Japan Corporate site - Not Roland US/UK/DE/IT/FR - as those are only distributors and they typically have stale  / no information

Dealing with Computers and Audio for 35 years now, Ive learned its always best to stay a year or two behind the bleeding edge, and Never upgrade an operating system on the day of release.
If you update your Operating System on day or release , expect 3-6 months of non productivity while waiting for broken Drivers to be fixed by all the third parties who create the drivers/apps  for your gear
We live and die by USB / Firewire Drivers - and those often take months to be ironed out / debugged.

I have lots a great Computer Audio Interfaces  - but they are now relegated to the obsolete bin,  strictly because of lack of Drivers for currently used operating systems.

Hi folks - Merry Christmas!  It appears that on December 26th Roland provided a release of Mac drivers for the GR-55 compatible with OS X 10.9 Mavericks.  There is also a release for the GR-55 librarian.

Here is the link:

That is such good advice - and a policy I have always observed.  It should be a mandatory sticky on every forum dealing with such matters.

It appals me that so many, who really should know better, don't observe it and then complain that things are "not working as they did".

True.
Luckily Roland has now released USB drivers for current versions of Windows and OSX. That leaves only USB 3.0 ports to blame if you can not get Audio or MIDI working with GR55, VG99, VB99.

Updated 10/22/2014
Compatibility with OS X Yosemite (10.10)

http://www.roland.com/support/article/?q=information&id=all

Yosemite is identified as 10.1 (dropping the 0)
and does not pass the requirements of many third party app / driver installers

Heres a link to a OSX Version change tutorial that is a work around for older OSX drivers and OSX apps to actually load and work in Yosemite

http://justindaigle.com/blog/2010/02/tutorial-change-mac-os-x-system-version/

Tutorial: Change Mac OS X System Version
By Justin
As I've said in a previous post, nearly the exact same process (that is, editing the systemversion.plist file) is used for this as for changing the iPhone OS version, since OSX and iPhone OS are based on the same core, but I'm writing this with more desktop OSX-specific steps and screenshots.

I suppose the question would arise, "Why would one want to do this?" On Leopard, it is incredibly useful in situations where one may wish to install software that claims to require an update that you don't want to install. I'll be demonstrating on Snow Leopard, but the procedure is the same on both. In my demonstration, I will be changing the version number from 10.6.2 to 10.7.0. This has no practical use, but will suffice for demonstration purposes.

Just went through a day or so of trying to get my GI20 to work w/Yosemite. Much research later I did find a post by a Roland rep saying pretty unequivocally that there would be no more driver updates for that unit. People have told me that the last driver still worked w/Mavericks. So I broke down and got a midi to usb cable with an up to date driver and it works perfectly.

ABOUT BOSS PRODUCT SUPPORT FOR WINDOWS(R) 10
Thank you sincerely for your ongoing use of products from BOSS.

Our statement regarding the use of BOSS products in combination with Microsoft Windows 10 is as follows.
At present, the drivers compatible with Microsoft(R) Windows(R) 8/8.1 that are available from BOSS's website do not support Windows 10.

With respect to Windows 10 compatibility information for BOSS products and driver support, we will proceed with verification following the release of the official version of Windows 10. We ask for your patience for the while until the information becomes available. We plan to announce the status of Windows 10 compatibility for BOSS products that are compatible with Windows 8.1.

Just a heads up - Do Not Upgrade to Windows 10 Yet - no USB Drivers are out there yet

So far Line 6 has a Windows 10 compatible Monkey and Line-6 License manager, but expect September / October 2015 before working USB Drivers become available for Windows 10. Forget about Firewire drivers

Yes I made the mistake of jumping on Windows 10 and Roland/BOSS USB drivers don't work. I checked the compatibility site and it reported "testing". I expected this.

We discovered a serious issue for Audio/MIDI applications on Windows 10. After some time (a few seconds or a few minutes) audio recording or playback will contain noise (drop outs).
Steinberg Cubase 8 application shows this usually after a few seconds.

During our analysis we discovered the following behaviour of Windows 10:
The Windows MMCSS services will get disabled for any audio application when the user interacts with the computer. As a result the audio processing/streaming threads get suddenly the same importance as non time critical programs. Frequent audio drop outs will start to happen. We observed that moving windows and switching between running applications will result in this issue.

We currently work with Microsoft to investigate and hopefully soon resolve the issue.

Yes, now I noticed something similar on my setup. When I start cubase, all runs smooth as long as focus stays on cubase. Then if I switch to another window (like file explorer), and back to cubase, I get spikes even if I just move mouse over the project. Restarting cubase helps. Or opening empty project in parallel, activating it and the reactivating previous project - VST performance meter is back to normal. It is annoyance, I hope it is fixed soon.
Otherwise win10 works great, much smoother than win7 before. Cubase UI is also better, no borders around windows, so you can stack windows to each other without those ugly thick lines. Win10 fells so much better than win7, that I will not go back to win7 although there is above described annoyance.

I did exactly the same.  Just presumed that Windows 10 would find the drivers and all would be fine.
Annoying to be honest.

Yep, for WDM/WASAPI only. Not ASIO - Microsoft has nothing to do with ASIO since ASIO is owned by Steinberg/Yamaha.

Read Christoplast"s post for getting Roland/Boss USB Drivers for Windows 8.1 to work with Windows 10

It appears that the 8.1 drivers work perfectly as long as you can defeat the driver integrity check that causes the installation to fail. I've done this in Win 10 64-bit to revive my ancient UM-2 and my much newer GR-55, using Method 1 as set out in  http://forum.cakewalk.com/The-ultimate-guide-to-get-your-RolandEdirol-devices-to-work-with-Windows-10-Updated-m3267234.aspx on the Cakewalk Sonar forum.

---

The ultimate guide to get your Roland/Edirol devices to work with Windows 10. [Updated]

If you follow my tutorial there is no risk of doing any damage to your hardware since it is only about software but I am not taking any responsibilities if you threw a hammer at your device anyways ;). However there is the small possibility that your system could run unstable and crash in some situations.

Edit: I strongly recommend the first method since the drivers used are newer and might play better with your system.

Method 1 (Recommended):
For this we will need some restarting and a little bit of work. But for that, we might achieve better results.

Links:
Link to my youtube video on how to do Method 1:
!

Download archive with the bat files:
http://www.mediafire.com/download/8dja5loir1k0nwd/Driver+Signature+Enforcement.zip

Step 1:

Download and extract only the Windows 8/8.1 Driver.

In the extracted folder you have to look for an .inf file. Commonly it will be placed in "Files\64bit\Files\". Do not move this out or any other file in the folder!
Step 2:

Now you have to open the .inf file with a texteditor like notepad and notepad++. (rightclick->"open whith"->"more"->"notepad")
Step 3:

Hit "Control + H" on your keyboard (not midi keyboard tho :P), for find we want to enter "6.2" and for replace with just "10", now hit "replace all" and save the file afterwards.
Step 4 (shoutout to bpembo for the contribution of the commands):

Right now you only have to disable driver signature verification.

Run the "Disable Driver Signature Enforcement" bat file as administrator or open an elevated command prompt. For that, click start, type in cmd, right click on it and select to run as administrator.

Enter this:
BCDEDIT -Set LoadOptions DISABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
BCDEDIT -Set TESTSIGNING ON

(I did not need to reboot, but some sources say it is necessary at this stage.)

Now you are going to install the Windows 8/8.1 Driver as you would normally. When Prompted with a warning just click install anyways.

To re-enable driver signing enforcement enter this into the elevated command prompt:
BCDEDIT -Set LoadOptions ENABLE_INTEGRITY_CHECKS
BCDEDIT -Set TESTSIGNING OFF

Method 2 (Only if everything fails) (might only work with Edirol devices):

Keep in mind that your device might not work 100% as desired because we will use drivers that are old and not meant to be used with your os.

Link to my youtube video on how to do Method 2:
! No longer available

Step 1:

What you will need to download and extract:
  Windows 8/8.1 Driver
  Windows Vista (64Bit) Driver
I only tested this on Windows 10 64 Bit. You might be able to do the same for 32Bit if you replace the Vista 64 driver with the Vista 32 bit.
Step 2:

Now you are going to install the Windows 8/8.1 Driver as you would normally except you will cancel the setup when you are asked to plug in your device. Also you do not want to run the uninstaller. We do this to make sure all the other components like control panels or software interfaces are also installed on your system. Right now we will have everything ready to go except the driver.
Step 3:

To install the driver you will need to go to the device manager. You can do this by hitting Windows + X on the keyboard and then clicking "Device manager".
Plug in your device. In the device manager you will have to look for a device named similar to your hardware. Right click on it and click "Update Driver Software".

Now you have to follow this steps: click "Browse my computer for driver software", click "Let me pick form a list of device drivers on my computer", click "Next" (leave "Show all devices" selected), click "Have disk", click "Browse".
Step 4:

Now navigate to the path you extracted the Windows Vista (64Bit) driver to. now you should only see one ".inf" file. Select it and click "Open". Right now you should be confronted with a list of possible drivers but in my experience there was only one apparant. (You might have to unselect "show compatible hardware"). Now hit "Next" and wait for the driver installation to finish.

If you followed my steps correctly, you should now have you drivers installed and working correctly.

I hope I could help you and have a nice day!
