Any thoughts or experience using the Triple Play with a Prophet 6?

Thinking about getting the FC-1 when it becomes available and using it with the new Prophet.

Any concerns or issues I might need to consider?

Thanks,

Be Careful not to step on the FTP receiver and break it,  since FTP USB receiver when mounted on the top of the FTP FC-1 foot controller is located only 3 inches away from the right  footswitch

Makoto

Thanks for the advise!

I might mod it so I can add external footswitching and keep the box on my amp, maybe...
This is really just for use in my home studio, doubt I would take it to a gig.

Are there any other options available you might recommend?

Or in reality am I better off just using software and not hardeware for my sounds?

Thanks again!

Im currently hooked up to a good old yamaha motif es-rack using an iconnectmidi4+ http://www.iconnectivity.com/iConnectMIDI4plus
For my controllers I got some midi expression usb units which connect directly to the iconnectmidi4+...http://www.audiofront.net/MIDIExpression.php . You can get either 1 analog input models, or a 4 analog input. Comes with easy to use software and allows you to use any analog controller...sustain pedal, expression pedal, switches and so on.
For me, switching from computer to hardware synth, all my problems disappeared....just so much more reliable.

I dont know much about the prophet-6....other than it sounds reeeeeally good. Always wanted one of those :)

Makoto use hardware!

You can use MIDI4+ or other USB MIDI Host like Kenton or Arduino board (http://cyfrowogitarowo.pl/archiwa/124). And of course use FTP in Hardware Mode with proper set patches. The best quality you will achieve with mono mode but I know that isn't always possible.

Makoto

Thank you! I really appreciate you walking me through this!

I will look into all your suggestions, and report back on my progress.

Thanks again, folks!

Makoto

The Motif rack looks very interesting, how is it working for you?
How are the sounds?

Thanks,

Makoto

The Motif rack is working really well with tripleplay in HW mode. No problems at all. Just have to match the pitch bend range on the presets with the tripeplay and youre good to go. Takes around 15sec ;)

I love the sounds.... demo here

MusicOverGear

Sounds like a dope setup. I thought about getting a Tetr4 when I got into synth programming last year but I just didn't want to cart it.

For a home setup, what is the advantage of the dedicated box from Fishman? I assume you have a big bad Mac in the center of your music room? Why not use that as the USB host/hub for the FTP? Is the Fishman box faster/more utile than a desktop/notebook computer?

vablows

musicovergear, the FC-1 is really geared for live use.

Unless you need to switch patches with you foot at home or in the studio for some odd reason.  ;)

dongzo

The FC-1 only has an expression pedal input. Would have been nice with a hold pedal option as well.
So...i just stick to my MIDI Expression Quattro with 4 inputs - connected to a 2-button pedal for prog change,
expression pedal for volume and a third input used for my hold pedal.
Don't know what to use the last input for yet ;)

Generally MIDI host + hardware synth (put here a name of your choice) + some floor board (SY-300, HD-500 or FCB1010, G-Lab GSC-2/3/4...)  can do that what FC-1.

FC-1 or USB MIDI host is don't needed use iPad or computer.

Thanks for the link to Motif sounds, I like it!
How are the string and piano sounds?
Very tempting  :)

Also, thanks for all the info on connecting and the various products you mentioned.

I really do appreciate all the help, maybe more questions soon  :)

Thanks guys!!!

So after reading everything here, I think the iconnectmidi4 makes more sense and is much more flexible then the soon to be releasd Fishman fc-1? Is this a correct assumption?

This is for studio use only, fwiw.

Thanks again, folks!

that works for me - I actually prefer the old original Black iConnectMIDI

dongzo

I dont know the original black iconnectmidi...but as long as it has a host port, a usb-input for the pedals and a standard midi-out for your synth, you're good to go.

Remember....if you need expression pedals or switches you still also need an audiofront midi expression or something similar that can be connected to the iconnect midi directly using usb.
As said, I got the quattro and that setup if extremely flexible.
I use the setup both on the road and at home.

For the piano and strings sounds on the motif-es rack....well....thats personal taste. I personally love the pianos and strings, but i dont use thoose sounds in my band. I mostly use lead pathces, brass and pads, mostly mixed in with my guitar (using axe-fx ii for my guitar).

FWIW....for the first time ever i feel my setup if complete. Cant think of anything to improve....besides maybe a few extra guitars ;)

I don'r read FC-1 manual but one thing where it could be better then other USB MIDI host is possibility to use FTP simultaneously with MIDI 5 DIN and computer connected via USB. Additional bonus is tuner maybe all settings without computer.

Makoto

Received the Prophet 6 and Iconnectivity midi unit today, now I need to figure this all out  :)
Any tips or suggestions are welcome!

Will report back on my sucess or lack of,...

FWIW -the iConnectMIDI and iConnectMIDI4+ both allow the MIDI over USB (received from the FTP USB receiver) to be sent out the 5 pin MIDi ports and the computer  / iPad / iphone connected USB "B Client port

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply with these links and info, I really appreciate it!

I also appreciate the support and help I have have received here on this forum, very kind of you folks.

I think this will be very helpful!

The Iconnectivity is the midi4+, so no expected issues with that once I figure out how to program it.

Again, thank you!

dongzo

Its not hard to configure the iconnectmidi4+...just go thru this tutorial

Good luck :)

Makoto

Thank you for that link, iconnect midi now all set!
System is up and running!

;D

Thank you everyone!

More questions certainly to follow...

Hey @dongzo, did you had to do anything special to make the Audiofront midiexpression detected by your iConnect device? I never managed to get it seen by my iConnectAudio4+, tried straight to the USB host jack, using a usb hud, upgrading firmware on midiexpression and iCA4+ but it never get detected. Did you have to do anything special to get it working?
