Brain-reading headset to sell for $299
By BARBARA ORTUTAY, AP Business WriterWed Feb 20, 5:25 PM ET

Hands cramping up from too many video games?

How about controlling games with your thoughts instead? Later this year, Emotiv Systems Inc. plans to start selling the $299 EPOC neuroheadset to let you do just that.

The headset's sensors are designed to detect conscious thoughts and expressions as well as "non-conscious emotions" by reading electrical signals around the brain, says the company, which demonstrated the wireless gadget at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.

The company, which unveiled a prototype last year, says the headset can detect emotions such as anger, excitement and tension, as well as facial expressions and cognitive actions like pushing and pulling objects.

The headset will be sold with a game developed by Emotiv, but it can also be made to work with existing PC games, the company said. Users will also be able to access an online portal to play more games, chat or upload their own content such as music or photos.

Emotiv plans to work with IBM Corp. to explore applications beyond video gaming. The "brain computer interface" technology could transform not only gaming, but how humans and computers interact, said Paul Ledak, vice president of IBM's Digital Convergence business.

Wireless PSP Control: New media artist Rob King is working on converting his Sony PSP into a brilliant, wireless controller for Ableton Live. That's not Live running on PSP below (the PSP would be a wee bit underpowered), but it is a way of creating a wireless Live controller. Sure, for practicality, I'd rather control Live with a foot controller so my hands are free, but for coolness, this can't be beat. Follow the results on his blog, e-mu; he's got a preview of the PlayLive interface, and a free downloadable PSP tool that converts the PSP into a wireless MIDI controller and (on Windows) wireless mouse.

Fans of PSP hacking should also check out MAKE:Blog's story on Wi-Fi joystick and mouse operation using the PSP, which also links to some of MAKE's excellent past coverage of PSP homebrew and hacking.

Linux GP32 Tracker: If you're tired of having Sony and Nintendo treat you like a criminal for running homebrew software and would rather use an open-source, Linux-based platform instead, the GP2x finally has its own tracker. LittleGPTracker is sample-based, inspired by the ubergeeky and wonderful lsdj for GameBoy, and can even drive other MIDI devices or computers via a custom interface. (It also runs on GP32, though that's a GP2x shown here.)

I wouldn't call it "Bizarre" but on the subject of WI - if you want to convert your Wii controller input to MIDI, there are several simple and inexpensive tools to do that now such as this one.

or this one

Mount a Wii controller on your guitar and send button, tilt and location information to the VG-99. Fun.

I've been playing with a set of these. They are much more interesting than they even seem on the web site.  Very cool.  I can't afford them, but they are really quite nice to use.

Glen Campbell was a monster guitar player long before he became a pop star.

By 1971 they were discontinued and blown out. I still have a 1970 Rolling Stone Magazine with a fullpage ad for this rig.

"The earliest guitar synth that I know of. Fortunately, that ugly bridge cover comes off. We used to practice at the guy's house who had this so we didn't have to lug it around- about 50 lbs. in the case as I recall. The bassoon sound was pretty good, the Sitar setting didn't sound anything like a sitar. The 2-string bass options allowed you to play a bass line on the 5th and 6th strings, with the top four strings normal guitar- very cool."

i dig the folding case that turns into a stand.

My Dad was a pro sax player and he had one of Condor units for his clarinet.
I still have it in mint shape.
It sure was cool to play with.

I guess Disney/ Washburn have a real guitar hero game with a new hex PU.

Maybe they will  give it a GK13 out?

IMHO - It will never catch on with the "tweens" !!   They have no attention span.
The reason that Hero works is 'cus the music is PDG and the controller is easy to use - unless of course you can actually PLAY GUITAR !!
Throw in 6 strings and 22 frets..  colossal mental over-load and no reset capability  LOL

So cool, things like Emotiv are the way of the future for sure.
It don't think it will be long before many things are able to
be controlled by thought. hh gregg (http://www.hhgreggnewstores.com)
