So, I saw this at a flea market with another small suitcase, and it's big enough for my VG-99.

I have a random foam collection stuffed in there. Do you think I can use a glue gun and those melty hot glue sticks to glue foam onto the sides of the suitcase? Ever done it?

Hot glue (although not recommended obviously) does work...
...I also find that the black-colo(u)red sticks seem to make a stronger bond than the clear stuff, FWIW..    ???

The problem really lies in the quality of the surface that you are sticking the foam TO....  if that has the cr@p of ages on it and/or the remnants of old linings, etc., then nothing is going to stick all that well until you clean up the area really well first.

The same can also be said about the surfaces of OLD foam that have begun to crumble...   ...it then starts to look like a job for a few tubes of (non-drip!) contact cement.

Super 77 is the shiz!
I used to work in a furniture shop, and we used spray glue on foam.
I've used a lot of Super 77 on a lot of different things, and it will stick just about everything together.
Use it in a well ventilated area. Cover anything you don't want stuck with newspaper, and spray a thin even coat on both sides.
Especially with foam, make sure you get it lined up correctly for first contact between the two surfaces. It ain't coming apart easily. It dries pretty quickly. If the fit is very close, and it seems like it won't take much to hold it in place, you can try a dab, or very light mist.

Remember the Winnebago gas pedal in the Blues Brothers?
